Price-Pottenger talked about this decades ago.
Weston A. Price, DDS and his wife traveled around the world over 10 years in each of the secret to health. Instead of looking at people afflicted with disease, this highly-respected dentist and dental researcher chose to focus on healthy individuals. Dr. Price traveled to hundreds of cities in 14 countries in remote areas of the world in his search to find healthy people. He observed perfect dental arches, minimal tooth decay high immunity to tuberculosis and overall excellent health in those groups of people who ate their indigenous foods. He found when these people were introduced to modernized foods, such as white flour, white sugar, refined vegetable oils and canned goods, signs of degeneration quick became quite evident. Dental caries, deformed jaw structures, crooked teeth, arthritis and a low immunity to tuberculosis became rampant amongst them. Dr. Price documented this ancestral wisdom - including hundreds of photos - in his book, Nutrition and Physical Degeneration.
Francis M. Pottenger, Jr., MD was dedicated to the cause of preventing chronic illness. In his classic experiments in cat feeding, more than 900 cats were studied over ten years. Dr. Pottenger found only diets containing raw milk and raw meat produced optimal health: good bone structure, wide palates with plenty of space for teeth, shiny fur, no parasites or disease, reproductive ease and gentleness. Cooking the meat of substituting heat processed milk for raw resulted in physical degeneration, increasing with each generation. Vermin and parasites abounded. Skin diseases and allergies increased from 5% to over 90%. Bones became soft and pliable. Cats suffered from adverse personality changes, hypothyroidism and most of the degenerative diseases encountered in human medicine. The third generation did not live long enough to reproduce. In his book, Pottenger's Cats: A Study In Nutrition, Dr. Pottenger tells the definitive story of how processing and heat can damage both food and the health of those consuming it.
