Are you suggesting that we should all be allowed out like normal? Infor one am good with that, although probably not in the present form. If someone just came out and said “hey, this thing is pretty contagious and we don’t know a whole lot about it, but we need to get back to normal for sanity sake. Just make sure you are wearing a mask in public spaces when social distancing can’t happen, we’ll do our best. Some people are going to get sick, some of those may die, but we’ve got to get back to work and life” I would be okay with that. The problem is, everybody seems so polarized over this thing, and is either taking a hard stance on either all or nothing. I say it can’t go on like this forever, or else this country is going to go bankrupt. While teachers are not babysitters, you can’t expect people to sit at home and teach their kids and not work, or pay for child care that wouldn’t guarantee they wouldn’t be exposed either. Our healthcare system did a great job on this thing given what was know at the beginning, and I’m sure would be able to handle it now.

It’s untrue but it’s not insane. The dude exaggerates, like a salesman, which he is. I would say though, we will see some serious consequences of living in fear and sheltering. I don’t believe you have kids, I could be wrong, but I think I remember you saying that before. Anyway, I have children, and even though I am fortunate enough to make a living and my wife be able to say home, my kids need socialization. Not to mention my wife is not a teacher and can’t do a better job than a teacher. I have one child in a gifted school (humble brag, sorry) that he gets to do wonderful things that help his brain. He needs that stimulation. I have one that was supposed to start kindergarten in the fall, but because the schools are only opening two days a week, we’ve decided to put him in the preK at his current day care. To ask parents to stay home and home school their kids is what’s insane. Think about the families that can’t afford to do that? They couldn’t even get their kids to do work during the last quarter of the school year, how are they going to survive a whole year and a half out of school? This will be a lost generation, and that’s not Trumps fault no matter how much you want to pin all blame on him.  Just have the kids wash and be diligent about their interactions at school, and have the teachers wear masks.

Children and their parents annoy one another more when when don't get a break from each other. Attending school away from home is a natural way to accomplish this.

If a parent has been lucky enough to keep their job throughout the pandemic, having their kids at home can be problematical and expensive specially if they are of an age when childcare is necessary. There is likely to be a lot of kids left on their own who shouldn't be.

I don’t think you’re a dummy, so I wish sometimes you’d address the entire responses you quote. I’ve heard it said that “Trump detractors take him literally, while Trump supporters take him seriously”. Are people dying because they’re not going to school? No they’re not. But the overdoses are going up on drugs, violence is increasing etc. Maybe you could argue that if a family died because they all contracted covid because they were in a house together? That’s a stretch. Either way, I don’t think people are literally dying because they didn’t go to school. That’s a lie at face value.


Now, what are your thoughts on how the issue should be handled? I don’t come to this forum enough to read your posts to see if you’ve given suggestions in the past. But, id like to hear solutions from people on how to address it, rather than complaining.
