On August 1, 2020 at about 1:30 a.m. people started a bonfire in the middle of Southwest 3rd Avenue in front of the federal courthouse. People brought plywood and other flammable material to keep it going. Over the next hour the number of people dwindled to a few dozen.

There was no police interaction with the crowd. https://www.portlandoregon.gov/police/news/read.cfm?id=251059

PORTLAND PROTESTS

After federal handoff, crowd shifts focus

Maxine Bernstein

The Oregonian/OregonLive August 2, 2020

At one point near midnight, a couple of dozen black-clad younger men and women arrived with shields, gas masks, hockey and lacrosse sticks. Some people started to bang on or shake the fence, some tossed a couple of glass bottles over the fence and ignited fireworks.

Others in the throng balked. They steadfastly called out the agitation and shifted the focus away from unrest.

When one woman started banging a wooden board against the fence, her friend strode up to her and told her to cut it out. The woman at the fence dropped her board and walked away. After midnight, when people set two fires further north on Southwest Third Avenue, others angrily confronted them and splashed water to put them out.

Not all the folks protesting are Portlander's. They should stay home. We don't want them here and we don't need them in our city.

Another woman on a speaker, Maya Malika, demanded: “How do we get out of this mess? Revolution, nothing less!” Malika said she came from Los Angeles with others in the crowd as part of what they called the National Revolution Tour, whose website says it’s the “voice of the Revolutionary Communist Party, USA.”

Prime, this is what happens when you allow the "if it feels good, do it" scum to run the show.  This is what Portland deserves.  To be destroyed from within by it's self-defecating  policies.  You (and by "you" I mean all liberals) may say you didn't want this but reality is this is what you allowed and encouraged.

Remember one of the sayings of these cretins is "No Borders!"?  Yeah...All your base belong to them.

Why is it an issue that non-Portlanders are protesting in Portland? What is wrong with them thinking globally but acting locally? Why do borders matter when protesting?

Is there an issue if the the Revolutionary Communist Party, USA protests in Portland? Their concerns are in Portland, why not protest in Portland?

Montavilla is a diverse area and to label it a crime and gang-ridden neighborhood is intolerant.

Have you been to the Montavilla neighborhood recently? The crime rate is 150% above the national average.

Montavilla Livability
#45 ranked neighborhood in Portland
#89 ranked neighborhood in Oregon
Ranks better than 23% of areas

It is marginally racially and ethnically diverse, but the population is still 70% white. The area known as Montavilla is fairly large. It is more rundown the further north you go.

No. I've never been to the Montavilla neighborhood.  Here is a tweet from Montavilla(Portland Police) Sgt. Pete Simpson which is consistent with my previous post. Sergeant Simpson has been to the Montavilla neighborhood recently. In this post, I will refer to the Sergeant as Montavilla Sgt. Pete Simpson.

My post: "150 rounds is not the norm. There is a heightened climate of violence in the Portland area. When was the last time there were 150 shots fired in that area....."

Montavilla Sgt. Pete Simpson's Twitter post: "I worked violent crimes from 1998 to 2010, focusing on gun violence. I cannot recall a single case where we had this many shots fired in one incident. Insanity. "

Montavilla Police Sgt. Pete Simpson is saying that 150 shots fired in one incident is WAY out of the ordinary in Montavilla.

Here is a Montavilla resident named Stephanie. She tweets: "This is my neighborhood. I heard and called in the shots. Feels like a war zone here lately."

They key word in Stephanie's post is "lately". She didn't say "last night", she said "lately" and she was referring to Montavilla, which is where she lives. Along with Sgt. Simpson, Stephanie is also saying that there is an uptake in violent crime in Montavilla lately.

Based on Sgt. Simpson's and Stephanie's observations and experiences, it would be reasonable to suggest that there is an unusual increase in violence in Montavilla coinciding with the unusual increased level of violence happening in Portland where the riots are occurring.

To reiterate, I have not been to the Montavilla neighborhood lately but both Montavilla Sgt. Pete Simpson and Montavilla resident Stephanie have.

Goes to prove that violence only begets more violence. Do you know if the uptick in violence in Montavilla has anything to do with the BLM protests? Last I heard the police had no idea who committed the crime or why they did.

Could it have anything to do with what happened in Montavilla a few days prior? On July 27, 2020 at 10:40 p.m., East Precinct Officers responded to the 700 block of Northeast 87th Avenue on reports of a person shot. Officers arrived and found an adult male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Officers attempted life saving measures but the victim died at the scene.

Apparently, there was more than one shooting in Montavilla on the night of Aug 1st. Police investigate two overnight shootings within 10 min of each other. 1 day ago - Police said one person was taken to the hospital. Then, a second shooting was reported shortly after on Northeast 87th in the Montavilla ...

I would say there is an increase in violence. It is Portland's deadliest month in 30 years. Things are getting bad for a lot of desperate folks because of a lack of income due to the pandemic. The other day there were several articles in the Oregonian profiling people who have been out of work for months and have yet to receive any state unemployment or money from the two federal special programs for COVID-19; FPUC and PUA. Many are living on borrowed money and still unable to pay their rents or buy food. The streets of Portland are filling up with more and more people displaced because of the pandemic and are now homeless. It's a mess and it is likely going to get worse. Desperate people often take desperate measures.

You’re blaming the pandemic for the rioting in Portland? Last week you claimed it was the righteous BLM movement, this week as the violence takes over the state of Oregon, you’re blaming COVID? You really stretch the limits of how stupid one person can be.

How many of these “displaced” people have you offered food and shelter to you hypocrite? How much of your government pension have you given back to the “less fortunate” in Portland? If it is less than 100%, then you’re just another two-faced liberal bullshitter.

You’re beyond sick in the head, the liberal bullshit and outright lies you spout have no basis in reality and isn’t worth reading.

Why are you reading my posts? Save yourself the trouble....you won't hurt my feelings. But, if you are going to continue reading them, at least read what is written. Nowhere did I write that I blame the pandemic for the Portland riots. There is, however, a connection between pandemics, homelessness and violence.

I just checked my post history. I did not blame the riots on BLM last week or any other time. Not only can you not read, you make shit up.

Pandemics and Violence Against
Women and Children

Based on existing published and grey literature, we document nine
main (direct and indirect) pathways linking pandemics and VAW/C, through effects of (on): (1)
economic insecurity and poverty-related stress, (2) quarantines and social isolation, (3) disaster and
conflict-related unrest and instability, (4) exposure to exploitative relationships due to changing
demographics, (5) reduced health service availability and access to first responders, (6) inability of
women to temporarily escape abusive partners, (7) virus-specific sources of violence, (8) exposure to
violence and coercion in response efforts, and (9) violence perpetrated against health care workers.
