Not to be a luddite but old school air cons without circuit boards were tanks. Water heaters were more reliable. Cars were more reliable. And if something needed repairing, you could do it yourself without the manufacturer's software locking you out so you have to pay their official guy, who kicks them official money to be their official guy, outrageous sums. What a racket.

I'll be installing my own ducted system with as little circuit board crap as possible. Power supply controlled by thermostat and on/off switch. Boom. Done. Yes, there probably is a law against it.

Inaccessible technology sucks. This fetish for computerizing everything is bullshit.

A board geek could solder in new bits for way less than $600. Presumably the tech has identified the failed pixie shunt and isn't just firing the parts cannon with your dough.

Sounds like you're getting hosed. Part swapping to up service call invoices is rampant in that business. Get a second opinion.

Yes, you have good idea about getting a second opinion. Thanks for well intended advice. However, a second opinion would come at the expense of another service call charge. They all charge about the same for the initial house call. If I thought another company besides the one who originally installed the unit and who I vetted before hiring them to do the project for me, would give me a better price to fix it, I'd definitely get more than one estimate.

My son-in-law and I did some unsuccessful investigation by taking the unit apart and looking for the problem ourselves before calling the pros. Maybe knowing that we have a spider issue on that side of the house, convinced us that the guys who came out today were being honest with us about the reason for the failure or maybe because we are headed into the hottest part of the year, we just wanted to get it fixed as quickly as possible.

Over the years, I've needed to replace the computer boards on several other appliances. We live in a time when everything is computerized. Unless we are hardware engineers who are proficient in knowing about the operating systems n a slew of home appliances and equipment, we are at the mercy of those who are trained to repair our shit. There was a time when I was able to do the mechanics necessary to fix whatever problem my automobile might develop. Now that everything about a automobile running well hinges on a mother board, we are at the mercy of mechanics who not only are trained to fix this complex shit but have justification for buying the expensive diagnostic equipment that helps determine the problem.

I don't like spending money on something like this. But, it is a necessary component of the lifestyle most of us have become accustomed to and have come to believe is necessary to our survival in today's world.

As an aside, hats off to Matt Canning on this one topic. Most people living in a first world country, have no idea what life is like for people dying of starvation. Almost anyone who lives in a developed nation is so much more better off than folks in third world countries, they have nothing to complain about. Score one for Matt!

You can say that again  :o

I notice this a lot when the local press publish mug-shots... wonder why that is...?  I mean, I realise a mug-shot isn't a fashion shoot, but why do most cons look asymmetrical, etc..?

facial symettry has much to do with inteligence. ive known and believed that much of my life. there is about 3 percent of population of this earth that is atractive. and being attractive is universal. why is that you think? because symetrry is symettry. all over the world. the eye can see it.

and if some ugly fuck complains about my spelling, i rest my case! im not in english class and this has no spell check. nor would i use it if it had!

mathmatics as some call it wants to be perfect. when it screws up, you get ugly people who likey came from ugly parents. and then it just goes on.

What's their Getbig user names?

Facial 'symettry' has much to do with 'inteligence'. Do you find any of these folks 'atractive' because 'symetrry is symettry'. Maybe they excel in 'mathmatics'? They very 'likey' don't in spelling.   ;D

Tell me, oh wise one, what's a glory hole bar? Obviously you must have some experience with this. I don't.

other than the guys with the neck and face tattoos, they look like normal masculine men you would see anywhere

no crazy hair colors or hair styles or mental patient eyes like the antifa pics, they are complete outcasts and they think that gives them common ground with black people
