I train on an empty stomach each morning and walk for an hour or 6km straight after, basically two plus hours of training on an empty stomach with only some pre workout to help mobilise fat for energy. Basically fasting, i then Try to eat meat and vegetables rest of the day, no sugar and starch only where you need it for energy. I wouldn't do it trying to get bigger when i was younger, but now its great start to the day at 4.30am. Don't do it as a diet do it as a constant lifestyle, just use food as the non constant, eat more in winter, less in summer but keep the regime going, weight might go up but keeps bopdyfat in check.
