I agree with you, and your reasoning there.

Chances are, the guys today do have physically bigger chests in terms of an absolute measure of volume.  But with larger stomachs, it's harder to see that.

Regarding Phil - no doubt he is amazing, but I can't imagine any bodybuilder in the world ever beating Ronnie Coleman at the Mr. Olympia in 2003.  To me, that is a physique that has yet to be beaten.  Phil may have been leaner, but Ronnie is around 2" taller and had to have weighed at least 30-lb more.

I'm not taking away anything from Phil, but to be 287-lb with shredded glutes and split biceps, etc...Ronnie in 2003 was, IMO, the greatest bodybuilder of all time, and would beat any bodybuilder in any contest in history.  But hey - that's just my opinion.

The did flys with heavy dbs so deep back in the days that the elbows almost were touching the floor. They were all wrecking their shoulders big time, but it lead to great overall pec development I guess

I saw Dorian right around the time of Those Epic Black & white pics of him up around 310lbs
And he was unbelievably Big his muscular size Dwarfed everyone.
I’d say no one has matched Dorian at that time yet - or Maybe Ronnie came very close.
Only we shall Never know.

Also JP Fux & Markus we’re Both Huge at their peak. No not as physically good as Dorian or Ronnie
Only Right up there in terms of pure Muscular Size.

91 Haney and 2011 Heath are pretty good too.  Not better than Yates or Ronnie but probably 3rd and 4th.

They all had bad shoulders. I'm just rereading the book Zane put out on his training journals. The name of the book escapes me.  Day after day he mentions his bad shoulders and the pain medication he takes for it.  The amount of top of the food chain steroid champs with bad shoulders is huge. Maybe we shouldn't be copying their chest and shoulder routines. They work but what's the cost?  Shoulders that don't work at 50?  I've learned a lot of about training shoulders and chest in a more safe matter but it's too late for me. Save yourself now while your shoulders still works pain free.
