Yeah, they thought he was boring, so that's when he came up with the Wrestling/MAGA-persona to make people hate him just so he would get views and voila, people tuned in to see him and he was not in danger of being cut anymore.
Even if you are a good fighter, it helps if you can do PR as well, like Conor McGregor. Conor would never have gotten the Floydwood Mac-Fight if he couldn't talk like he did.

I should re-watch "Moneyball". I remember one line in the movie where they were deciding on a player to either recruit or trade, and they mentioned that he didn't have a good looking girlfriend, and that that was the sign of low confidence?
