You don't get it through an employer here. For the best imo. I already need an employee to make me $2 for every $1 I pay him to make having him worth my while. So I work alone and I'm not hiring. Whoever he might have been he's been protected right into unemployment.
The sten cell thing probably isn't an option unless you shell out for it. Or, as grove said, he just figured having an extra 100k is better than not having it.
Financially, he'll be fine. It's Australia. He's probably getting $30-40/hour to drive a forklift around, plus holiday pay, sick pay, long service leave, retirement funding, etc.
