  GENETICS is everything when it comes to bodybuilding!! Probably the only "sport" in the world that is completely dependent on genetics to achieve your goals. From the weights to the food to the DRUGS !  The 70s guys had it down right. Off season lift heavier longer rest and they built size. contest time they went lighter ate little to no carbs worked out A LOT . Then after the show they took time off relaxed no drugs ate good etc.  They did NOT carry their food with them or weigh out every little thing and do cardio and have "gurus" and coaches  . And look at not only how good and healthy they looked but most of them lived to be old and are still living!  Dorian had good genetics. Ruined his body by doing what he did but he did achieve his goals. Methead ruined his life because he got all caught up in other drugs and believing he was better than he was.  No Dorian did NOT out work everyone. For a guy who always said you leaned all he could before he started training I dont think he did. He ruined his body because he wouldnt take time off AND he pushed heavy weights during contest training because he thought he need that to keep his "size". His geneticsis what gave him that grainy look. NOT his training his diet. Drugs maybe helped because we do NOT know exactrly what or how much he was taking .

What was most impressive to me about Yates was his demeanor.

His physique was impressive of course, particularly prior to the injuries, but his demeanor to me was even more impressive than what his muscles brought to the stage.
