Just messing around here, as I really don't know the full extent of what could be going on but...
What if this is an eleventh-hour hail Mary from Trump? It would be a masterful play by our commander-in-chief. Consider that he is now able to preach to the masses that he, much like the millions that have been affected by COVID, understands what it is to suffer in their plight. Additionally, this will most likely cause the third debate to be cancelled, thereby reducing any likelihood of Biden having a better showing a second time around and (most importantly) it will unite the nation behind Trump in that all Americans will see him as a regular person that isn't immune to the effects of this pandemic and once he rises up, like a Phoenix from the ashes, will inspire greatness by way of embodying the true spirit of what it is to be American.
This will cause Biden to cancel all negative ads he had lined up against Trump. He will also soften his rhetoric knowing damn well that insulting a person who has COVID can cause the US public to turn on you, as you're literally going after a man that might have a foot in the grave.
What if this was the play? It would be a brilliant move by his PR team.
That theory aside, I do hope he recovers, as I wouldn't wish death upon no one. In the crazy chance that he makes a turn for the worst, it would be DEVASTATING to America. Our stock market would crash, our enemies abroad would get ready for war and Washington wouldn't likely have a good contingency plan.
Folks, I've said it before, this is by far the strangest year of my life.
