If someone "ridicules" a supposed risk and then gets whatever they were ridiculing this doesn't make their assessment incorrect.
Making an assessment of the risk of something in a population group is seperate from ones risk as an individual. You can catch any disease as an individual due to bad luck, bad genetics etc, that doesn't mean it's still not unlikely that everyone or even anyone else will also catch that particular disease. Let alone the actual lethality argument of a disease, especially this disease.
