Mike your looking great. That pic with you holding that gallon jug really shows your conditioning in your midsection. Bravo man, keep it up...

BUT YOU HAVE TO PROMOSE TO SHOW US PICS A WEEK AFTER THE SHOW, WELL, MAYBE 2 DAYS AFTER YOU EAT ALL THE PIZZARIAS OUT OF BUSINESS! :) Thats the fun part.

Be carefull though, its really easy to blow yourself completely out of shape after a show..I did it, and it was tough after that..treat yourself for a day or two and then go back to eating like you are now, and youll be continuously improving.

Bravo!  Its motivating for me also!  I know what I have to do, but DOING IT, is ENTIRELY a DIFFERENT STORY, and Mike is proving that boys and girlz!

What the hell is this, the "all-protein diet"??  ::)

44 grams of carbs/day wouldn't be enough to sustain Chad Mower in a coma!  No wonder you feel like shit.

Why would you go that low unless you're doing a keto diet, but if you were your fat intake would be higher?

The lowest I ever go on carbs when cutting is 150g/day or so. You need some muscle glycogen to spare protein.

I've been saying that for a long time, but hey he's gotten results with that diet.

I'd wager that he'd get the same results or better with less protein and more carbs though.  Also he might get stuck in his diet with such low carbs sooner or later.

Less then 100g of carbs a day is insanity, I don't know how a person could function like that.

but hey he's gotten results with that diet.

Any time you drop calories you'll lose weight.

Hell, he could eat 1900 cal/day of nothing but ice cream and lose weight.  ::)

But, if he upped his carbs to a more reasonable level (at the same calorie level), he wouldn't lose as much muscle, and he'd definitely feel better.

OK HERE IS THE DEAL , MIKE IS A LEGEND AND HERE IS WHY !!!

Because he is trying his best and giving it a go , can you imagine just how much better life and people would be if they all just tried there best and gave something challenging a go , or even if people had a direct goal to achieve such as mike has.
Plus what mike learns about himself through this journey will make him a far stronger and better person for it ,

SO BAG HIM AS MUCH AS YOU WANT FOR IT IS BENEATH HIM AS HE IS A LEGEND, just like you all can be if you really want !!

Seriously, Mike, please eat some carbs.

I stick with a triangle principle 1) protein 2) starch 3) fiber.

But then again everyone is different. Talk to your nutritionist and get his advice.

Good luck, brah!

Listen to this Mike...

The ones here hitting you up w/ encouragements are the ones who have the guts to diet and get up under those hot/bright lights in front of 200 people. Ever see that 'MuscleHed' cartoon...the one with the fat pimply guy in the audience telling his buddy 'yea, this guy has all kinds of flaws...' pointing to the one on stage? Thats...everyone on here! Keep doing your thing, Mikey...a big Chicago style shout out to you, brother! Rock on, bro and keep that iron slinging and fcuk these b-tch ass people on here!

Ding ding ding...Well put and right on the money. I would love to see all these naysayers, go through a 3-6 month regime of at least dieting down and doing their best. They don't even have to do a show. Just go thru the trenches that us true competitors have endeared.

Hell I would love to see a body of life type challenge on here....Everyone put up say $20 bucks (depending on how many get involved) to an impartial holder and have the pros, or people that have at least competed judge everyone's before and after....

Howard thats so true, brother...

Those who have dug through the trenches respect those who go to battle. Well said!

Everyone on this thread slinging shit at Mike for whatever reason...never EVER sat down w/ a notebook 16 weeks out and planned every single training session and meal for the next 112 days...never ever pushed themselves on the gym floor with the fear of NOT looking your absolute best in the back of your mind, the bland meals, the having to explain to every human being around you 50x's a day how, what and why you do what you do...the ridicule from peers who dont get it, the hunger pains, the irritation of having to pee 30x's a day when you are water loading and the extreme thirst of no fluids for two days in a row, the fact that you have absolutley NO TIME to even do your own dishes because you wake up and do cardio and come home and cook all your meals for the day and go to work and train after work then hope to get to the tanning bed before they close then come home to make sure you're in bed at a certain time because you'll be dammed if you dont get any less than 8hrs of sleep, and the fatigue of standing for 2 hours while ProTan is being applied and the boredom and the back-ache(anyone who has had pro-tan applied to them by someone knows how much your back hurts and how bad you want to lie down) and the repetitive motion of going over your routine over and over again...the zombie like feeling of carb depletion, the placing and learning expierence you recieve...and the post-contest depression you feel when all that work and dedication you did for all that time is over in a day...then its back to the drawing board.

Howard, you know those feelings, right? Know what...half the fks on getbig.com will NEVER know it...they'll stick to bashing all of us that do. Know something els though...in his own way, however he did it...like him or not Mike Arvilla made a name for himself in the BB world. You cant argue that one!

i do however relate/agree with this post

Hey Mike, you got a cheat day right? Like every week? When you're dieting like that you need to take a day to eat like a pig (very high calorie/carb) to reset your metabolism. If not, your body will adjust to the diet and your fat loss will slow to a crawl.
I often will diet the same way as you but can't go for long periods of time because it's very parasitic on your muscles. The only way you can prevent catastrophic muscle loss is to eat a lot of fat with your protein, I mainly use MCT oil and Flaxseed oil.

Seriously man, you need a cheat day (which you drop close to contest time) or at least a minor diet adjustment. If you don't want to do that, at least eat a serving of oatmeal or rice after your morning cardio, and after any workout. It will increase your fat loss because it raises your metabolism.
Just don't eat any fat at the same time as the carbs, lean chicken or tuna would be good.  Anyway, I don't want to preach to you, and maybe it's not to best thing to change your diet now before a contest. I just know though experience that the way you’re doing it is extremely hard, and not as efficient as other methods.

Partly because he isn't eating enough (any) carbs, and he's burning muscle. Keto can work, but only if: 1) you replace the carbs with lots of fat as your primary fuel, and 2) You re-carb periodically (either post workout (TKD) or weekly (CKD)). Running depleted 24/7 is a recipie for muscle loss.

The other part of the reason is he didn't have as much muscle as he thought he did. Sure he was a "big" guy, but at 30% BF, that's a LOT of fat.  The fattest I ever let myself get (at the end of a bulk) is 15%.

GOAT.................i dont know when you got "a hard on for me",but you been bashing me quite regularly lately

yea i def lost some muscle...........but i still think there is a teeny bit of muscle left

The reason he is losing his muscle is due to his diet. A diet with little to no carbs causes the body to start using muscle as fuel. This happens the worse to BB'ers because we have a lot of excess mass. When on such a diet, the body thinks it's starving. It's defense it to burn mass since it's the biggest consumer of calories, it also slows down the metabolism. Eating a lot of fat and running some anabolics will help keep the mass. The best is anadrol since it's extremely anabolic, but since it causes bloat(water retention) in most people, you have to drop it about a week before the contest. Any other questions sparky?
