"Acting like a man" would involve being around to provide for your woman.  A "real man" will punch out some smartmouth drunk, and end up facing court & jail time, and suddenly be unable to vote, work at a good job, provide for the kids, etc.

Of course I'd want to kick his ass, and I'd likely attempt to provoke the asshole to swing first so I was justified in hurting him.  But to punch another person for words-  that puts you in the lower class- the poorer class- the ignorant class.  The smart people will find a way to get the idiot to initiate contact.

For my own morals and my honor?  Damn right.  Maybe you don't feel the same loyalty to your wife or maybe you feel that your not man enough to stand up to someone who would call you wife, or even your mother a c-nt, but no one is going to call me that to my face without some form of backlash from me.  I didn't do anything to justify him calling me anything, he was just a drunken asshole who thought he ruled the world.  I didn't even put a hand on him, just pinned him, where is the "abuse / assault" there?  If anything, I contained him as he verbally abused me.

hmmmm he had room to move.  There was about a foot between the two vehicles.  He just didn't think I was going to do anything.  I got out of the car and all he did was rant and rave that I "owed" him respect because he was wearing dog-tags.  Whether they were real or not I don't know, but a real soldier doesn't act like he did.  A real soldier wouldn't be getting shitfaced and calling a girl a c-nt because she would like to leave the parking lot (while he choses to stand and chat in the middle of the exit).

Cheri, I agree with you but unfortunately, he probably was in the military & as much as I would like to think they wouldn't act that way....there are those that do.  They are human just like everyone else & with the alcohol added, makes people say things they usually wouldn't do.

Now. I am all about standing up for myself, calling people out, & defending my friends or loved ones.  Just so you are aware, if he wanted to, he could have pressed charges for attempt of assault.  By using your car it would be no different than pulling a gun, but not actually pulling the trigger.  Hell, I would have done it too, but if a cop arrested me & read my rights, I would know where I committed the crime.  It's weird how our society is, but there's a thing called freedom of speech & it cannot get you arrested unless he made a verbal threat to you.  Can you imagine going in front of a judge & saying "well, I threatened him with my car because he called me a cunt"....the Judge would look at you & say "guilty".

So what I'm saying is.....people call you names & you pin him or hit him, just be aware of the consequence.

One thing that's interesting about the thought that "real men" use violence as a response to being called something ect. is that it only proves the opposite. A GROWN MATURE man has enough emotional stability and confidence to NOT get hurt and affected by stupid assholes who tries to mess with them. The men who become violent immidiately are often mentally still boys, and boys lack control over their emotions..

Spill a drink.  Talk shit back, pushing a button causing the fool to take a swing.  Insult him in front of the crowd.  Insult his mother.  Crack on his shoddy car or shoes.  Make fun of his face.  GET TEH FOOL TO SWING FIRST!

Then you punch, kick, wrestle, stab, shoot, etc until you feel better and you have regained your wife's honor.   You woman will respect your ability to defend her, you'll punk the guy who needs it, and you'll possibly go home with the ability sue him for swinging first, even though you kicked the shit out of him afterwards.
