Yes. To my point the Democrats left one state, e.g California, to another but California still has an all time record high population. Only Democrats move out and new Democrats replace them?
So if populations are increasing in general and the only people moving in are Democrats the Republicans stand zero chance of ever winning a Presidential election.

People move for many reasons regardless whether they are Democrat, Republican, Reform, Libertarian, Socialist, Natural Law, Constitution, or Green Party. People also change parties. In the general election, you can vote for any candidate you chose. If you are in a closed state, like Oregon, you can only vote your party in the primary.
There are a large number of Democrats in urban areas. In contrast many Republicans tend to live in suburban and rural areas of the county. But this demographic is changing as more and more people work from home. One reason that people living in large cities may be more liberal is that they are exposed to more variables. With the advent of the internet, social media and cable, people living in rural areas of the country are becoming more and more enlightened as to what goes on in the world.
You are absolutely right about the fact that the majority of people are either registered as Democrats or Republicans. This means we are essentially a two party system. Maybe this will change someday.
