Moderate Dem Elissa Slotkin Vows Not to Support Nancy Pelosi for House Speaker

Representative Elissa Slotkin (D., Mich.), a moderate whose district voted for President Trump in 2016 and 2020, said she would not support giving Nancy Pelosi (D., Calfi.) another term as House Speaker, in an interview with Politico released on Friday.

Trump carried Slotkin’s 8th district in 2020 by just 1 percentage point, while the incumbent congresswoman won reelection by less than 4 points. Slotkin earned national fame as part of a group of moderate Democrats who pushed to open an impeachment inquiry against the president in September 2019.

In the wide-ranging interview, Slotkin made clear that she thinks Democrats needed a change in leadership after the party almost lost its House majority in the general elections.

“I will not be voting for Nancy Pelosi” for speaker of the House, Slotkin told Politico. “I have no idea if people are gonna run against her, or who might run against her. And I will of course have this conversation directly with her. But I believe we need new leadership.”

AOC tweets picture of herself shooting daggers at Democrat Senator Joe Manchin after he mocked her support for 'defund the police' and 'crazy socialist agenda' of the party's far-left

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) has tweeted a picture of herself shooting daggers at Senator Joe Manchin after he mocked her support for 'defund the police' and 'the crazy socialist agenda' of Democrats.

Writing on Twitter on Wednesday, Senator Manchin said: 'Defund the police? Defund, my butt. I'm a proud West Virginia Democrat. We are the party of working men and women.

'We want to protect Americans' jobs & healthcare. We do not have some crazy socialist agenda, and we do not believe in defunding the police.'

In response to Manchin's Tweet, AOC shared a picture of herself furiously staring at the back of his head during last year's State of the Union address, famous for being when woman from the Democratic party wore all-white.

On Thursday, AOC defended her support for the 'defund the police' movement after Democratic losses in the House during a virtual town hall meeting.

Europe is their economic model.  The EU spends 45-50% of GDP, some on that "free" stuff, while we're at just over 30%, including all levels of gov't.
That extra 15-20% represents more that $2 trillion in additional annual spending.  Think our Federal gov't is too large, controlling, and wasteful now?
