He has a law degree and briefly once worked for a large law firm. That being said, being a politician is not only a real job, it is a very challenging job. One were every couple of years or so, your performance is reviewed by the public at large who then votes to keep you or fire you.

Biden served 36 years as a U.S. senator from Delaware and went on to serve as vice president of the United States with President Barack Obama for 8 years. This is a total of 42 years as an elected official. These political offices required votes. Directly as Senator and by extension as Vice President.
