Ok, I just watched a 14min Youtube on the Byrna. Bottom line, there seems to be a lot of malfunctions as with most C02 charged firearms (this is not the same as Airsoft). Yeah, the impact is painful but doesn't seem enough to really stop someone unless you aim for the head and if you don't train, that's highly unlikely. Because it's unreliable and you have multiple threats coming at you the chance of a malfunction seems pretty good with thing.

Unless you can shoot hundreds of rounds through it without a malfunction to prove it's reliability, you're a dead man.

Malfunction rate is much less than a pistol.  No weapon is 100% reliable which is why they send test rounds and advise to learn to use the device and maintain it much like a regular gun.  But when used, it is highly effective and more effective than a rifle as it hits multiple targets within the vicinity...one shot would have taken out the entire mob...its effective

Ive not had that experience but there are plenty of other brands to choose from.  There's also tasers and long distance melee weapons like the new whip device.  Also a riot spray canister.  Lot of stuff he could have had.  I would have had a regular handgun but you do not want to rely on that
