Yeah, that Dorian was pure shit from the front :/  Nevermind his front lat spread and his ab/thigh...those don't count?

Doz might've gone batty by subscribing to some stupid conspiracy nonsense stuff, but the bullshit he's currently talking about in relation to smoking pot explains some of his aberrant behavior.

Still, he does seem outwardly healthy, and he is obviously happy with his life.  Contrast that with Coleman sitting in a wheelchair, totally drugged off his ass on some serious painkillers, struggling to answer questions about his "friend" Nasser who was "Duh nihsis guy"

He had an amazing back and great conditioning. Other than that he looked like shit from the front in every pose except for side triceps. So overblown how great he was. He was great in '92 and '93 that's it. Oh you had to see him in person. Ya sure

His abs/thighs, front lat spread and side tri's is probably the GOAT.  Front double bi's was a negative with a torn bicep but he did hide it fairly well.  His side chest is also very good if not great.  He is great on all the quarter turns as well.

He was only great for 2 years? ???  How many years are other competitors great like that?

What we perceive as pleasing aesthetically is somewhat subjective, though not totally so (for example when it comes to pleasing facial features, people rate faces similarly).
I would say his front lat spread was crazy good. In my opinion someone like Coleman wasn't even close. Huge as hell but kind of goofy looking.

Those pics of Dorian’s front lat-spread are beyond awesome.

By comparison, Ronnie’s look shitty.

it's like he has no control of his scapula.   powerlifting bodybuilders often
have flexibility issues with the scapula and lats.

yet his lats still pop out like crazy. wonder what he would have looked like
if he had worked on that.

Back in the day when I was trying to gain mass muscle, having a physique like Dorian would have been my dream. Except by the time he was on top, I was already past my prime.

Could be unrelated to physical issues too. The way he holds his legs makes them look cow-legged too, plus the facial expression. Maybe that's the wrong expression but the lower leg sort of turns outward. And the leg is locked instead of having a slight bend.
Yates has a normal expression and the pose doesn't look strained.

I have the very unpopular view that it's almost impossible to teach or learn posing. Either you have the aesthetic sense to hit your poses "right" or you don't. Never saw a bad poser turn good, no matter how many posing coaches they hired.

well that's because it's an art form pretty much

like dancing, singing, writing poetry, painting, whatever.

with that you have it or you don't

People have attacked me for saying this, very unpopular view on the forums:D Some ask to be critiqued for their posing but then you see them compete and they have forgotten all about the advises.

Yates didn't gyrate and dance or do homosexy moves but I think his posing was very precise and well executed. No one called him a great poser though.  :D

agreed.  i've spent hours with guys getting their front double bicep
to be hit proper.  hours and hours getting it perfect.
what happens on stage??  they revert to the 'fighters double bicep', for
lack of better term.

no different than a fighter going through the katas or whatever they are called.
they look like blackbelts in training, yet if it's not engrained deeply enough,
they look like they are dogpaddling in the ring.

Dorian never had the chest of Ronnie, but his back was superior, imo, just granite, dense muscle

I once put a routine together for a guy and when we practiced the start he walked on from the left , on the day of the show they walked on from the right, he did his entire routine facing the wrong way, he even did his side chest with his back to the audience..

Hunter would be invisible standing on stage next to a prime Dorian.
literally his shadow would make him disappear.

Agreed - just get the job done

Things in posing that make me wince (even though Vince Taylor is one of my all time faves and did most of at some point - usually in the same routine  ;D)
-  The robot/terminator
-  Lip-synching
-  Body-popping/dancing of any sort
-  Cupped ear begging for applause
-  Posing to O Fortuna (oh brother)  Once saw a regional show where no less than 6 competitors thought that they'd discovered hitting poses to the kettle drum

HAHAHAHAHAHAAA!  That's brilliant  ;D   It's nerves for some people - fair play though, at least he remembered his moves - I just went totally blank when I saw all the faces and tried to remember everything at once

I still favor Yates, but to each his own.

It's subjective for sure. Yates had a grainy convex turtle shell back, whereas Coleman had a mushy, concave (in the back double bis) but maybe bigger back.I think Yates edges him out.

Well-said.
