Dominion sends letters threatening defamation lawsuits to Sean Hannity, Maria Bartiromo, Lou Dobbs, and other pro-Trump media figures


Dominion Voting Systems has sent letters to Fox News, Newsmax, and One America News, warning of a defamation lawsuit.

The voting firm is at the center of a false right-wing conspiracy theory it manipulated the results of the 2020 presidential election

The letters, dated December 22, warn the recipients to preserve documents and copies of correspondences related to Dominion.

Dominion Voting Systems has sent letters to Fox News, as well as the right-wing media outlets Newsmax and One America News, warning that it may sue for defamation over the conspiracy theory that the election technology company manipulated the results of the 2020 presidential election.

Dominion has also sent letters to individual hosts and right-wing media figures, including Fox News's Sean Hannity, Lou Dobbs, and Maria Bartiromo, as well as Rush Limbaugh.

The letters, dated December 22, warn the recipients to preserve documents and copies of correspondence related to Dominion. The company is at the center of a conspiracy theory that it has secret ties to the rival election tech company Smartmatic, as well as the regime of the now-dead Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez, and developed technology to secretly flip votes from President Donald Trump to President-elect Joe Biden.

"We have put Fox and Newsmax and OAN on notice that we have claims, and that we are evaluating those claims, and that we're intending to pursue those claims," Dominion attorney Tom Clare told Insider in an interview Wednesday night. "We want to make sure that not only are they preserving documents, but they're not doubling down on these same allegations."

Dominion has gone on the offensive in recent weeks, going after Sidney Powell, the former Trump campaign lawyer who filed four failed federal lawsuits propagating the conspiracy theory. Since initially pushing the theory in November, Powell has become a fixture on OAN and Newsmax, and has been an occasional guest on Fox News.

Dominion has also issued letters to some of the proclaimed witnesses in her lawsuits, including Russell Ramsland and Joshua Merritt, a self-proclaimed military intelligence expert who went under the pseudonym "Spider" in Powell's legal documents.

Powell has declined to retract her statements about Dominion. Clare told Insider that Dominion's legal action against her would move forward.

"If she doesn't retract the statements - which she's already said she won't - then we're going to move forward with defamation litigation against Sidney Powell," Clare said.

Dominion has also sent letters to the Epoch Times, another influential right-wing media outlet, and Marisa Carone, a Michigan resident whom Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani has falsely touted as a witness to voter fraud.

There is always some election fraud. There was some election fraud in 2016 there will be some election fraud in 2024. No one is saying there was NO election fraud. What I am saying, along with the Republican election officials, the Republican state and federal judges, the Trump appointed Attorney General, the Trump appointed Supreme Court judges and is there is no evidence brought forth to date that suggest there was widespread election fraud and that Biden won the election by getting the most legal votes in the popular election and the Electoral college.

A new Media Research Center poll of 1,750 voters in seven swing states demonstrates how the suppression of potentially damaging news for Biden was successful:

    – 45.1 percent of Biden voters were unaware of the financial scandals of Hunter Biden, wrapped up in the foreign-affairs power of Vice President Joe Biden in the Obama years.

    – 35.4 percent of Biden voters were unaware of Tara Reade’s allegation that Biden sexually assaulted her on Capitol Hill when she worked for him.

    – 25.3% of Biden voters said they didn’t know about Senator Kamala Harris’s left-wing ideology, that she was ranked America’s most “progressive” Senator in 2019.

The media also suppressed good news for President Trump’s record:

    – 49 percent of Biden voters had no idea economic growth surged by 33 percent in the third quarter, which would be unheard of, except for the extraordinary pandemic lockdown in the second quarter

    – The five pre-election jobs reports from June 5 to October 2 showed a record 11.1 million jobs were created in the summer and fall. But 39.4 percent of Biden voters said they didn’t know about this good news.

    – 50.5 percent of Biden voters did not know the U.S. became a net exporter of oil for the first time in 2019.

    – 45.3 percent of Biden voters had no idea that Trump’s team had helped broker historic agreements between Israel and Arab nations.

    – 36.1% of Biden voters said they did not know about the administration’s key role in promoting coronavirus vaccine research through Operation Warp Speed.

In every case, Biden voters said they might not have been Biden voters if the “news” media did their job and reported all the news, instead of burying stories that didn’t match their manipulative narratives.  One of every six Biden voters we surveyed (17 percent) said they would have abandoned the Democratic candidate had they known the facts about one or more of these news stories. This would have swung the swing states the other way. That’s why they hit the Mute button.
