Ronnie Coleman [2003] vs. "Big Ramy" Mamdouh Elssbiay [2020].
« on: December 26, 2020, 01:54:48 AM »
Nice video here, as the YouTuber took Ronnie's 2003 shots and compared them directly side-by-side to Big Ramy's shots in the same poses from the 2020 Mr. Olympia contest last weekend.  I would love to hear some of Getbig's eminent bodybuilding historians weigh in on this one:

I'd give it to Ronnie...but it's not exactly like he's leaps and bounds ahead of Big Ramy in those comparisons.

Pics and different footage don't mean shit, Ramys not even close...

Also ronnie 03 was drier at prejudge in the purple trunks, he wasn't as good in red trunks.

Ronnie kills ramy.

I agree that Ronnie beats Ramy.  I think to "kill" another bodybuilder would require being leaps and bounds ahead of him in multiple areas - for instance, in 2003, Ronnie not only outweighed Jay Cutler by 32-lb, but was also harder and leaner.  So I think saying Ronnie killed Jay in 2003 is a fair statement, as harsh as that would be to say to Jay.  What's so mind-boggling to me about that contest is that Ronnie was so clearly ahead of Jay that he almost made Jay look like an amateur, and yet at the same time, Jay was so clearly ahead of bodybuilders placing #3 and lower, that if you were to compare Ronnie to some of the other top bodybuilders in that lineup, you would think you were comparing a top pro bodybuilder with amateurs.

Darrem Charles [who is a great bodybuilder, and actually won a Classic Physique title in 2007, at around 49 years of age] claimed to weigh 235-lb in his Mr. Olympia days.  Whether that contest weight claim was accurate, I don't know, but even if he did weigh 235-lb, Ronnie outweighed him by 52-lb!  And that's what I mean about Ronnie making some of the Mr. Olympia lineup - yes, the Mr. Olympia lineup...the best bodybuilders in the world, and all champions in their own right - look like amateurs.

As for the claim that Ronnie in 2003 "kills" Big Ramy in 2020 - in terms of conditioning, I can accept that.  But size-wise, Ronnie is by no means dwarfing Ramy.

It's sort of hard to compare the two given that Ronnie has a short torso and long legs, whereas Ramy has the opposite - a long torso and short legs.

But in terms of conditioning, Ronnie is definitely ahead of Ramy.

Yeah matt but Ramys never been that tight as ronnie 03... How much would he suck down how much of "The size " you refer to would be gone?

Also ramy has glaring weaknesses, ronnie didn't.....

Ramys BDB is weak he's getting out classed in that shot by guys today!  even a subpar Phil can beat ramy in that shot. You are talking about comparing that to the greates BDB presentation of all time in ronnie 03!

Also compare hamstrings and glutes... Ronnie destroys ramy here aswell.. The list goes on.

Sorry but that is exactly what getting killed refers to!

Ronnie has more density.  That comes from heavy weights instead of pumping.

I guess I understand the comparison. They're both the biggest Mr. O's size wise. But comparing anyone to Ronnie they will look bad. He destroys anyone

Disagree. Coleman had horrible shape and lacked density and granite hardness. Very strange shape to his muscles. Dorian here was carved out of stone and blows the doors off of the bloofy Coleman.

Literally the only front pose he was good in. Dorian sucked from the front. He was amazing in '92/93 and then was a blocky mess of torn bodyparts. Ronnie '98/98 is untouchable

The only pose I'd give Ramy in that video is the side chest but every other shot Coleman wins easily.  Ramy may be the best currently, but he just isn't in the same league as a prime Coleman and I don't think he's capable of getting there due to his structure.  Coleman's conditioning was quite a bit better in that video than Ramy too.

You can't compare two bodybuilders at two different lighting.

You guys keep posting Dorian gym poses and in black and white... roelly gym pics are beating all of them does it mean he is better than Dorian? we will never know.

Anyway Ronnie is a way better than Ramy right now. What Ramy got on him is the quad and the abs/gut

Regarding comparing conditioning. Ronnie was pretty sloppy and mushy in 2003, for Ronnie. They obviously pushed fullness to the max so that's what happens. The size was so overwhelming so the slight loss in hardness didn't matter.
Ronnie wasn't "obviously" much more conditioned. It has to do with skin tone, skin thickness, separation, sometimes vascularity, the "pop" to the muscle. Ramy's muscle doesn't quite come alive in the same manner due to some of those factors. Like his legs don't project the same even if they are fat free because he doesn't have the same separation and skin tone. The lights tend to wash him out. Not necessarily because of still having fat to lose.
I always said here that Ramy has competed in excellent shape many times and people just assume he isn't conditioned enough. This year he was absolutely not "obviously better conditioned" than previously. The stars just aligned perfectly this year, the competition was what it was, and he managed to win fairly.

If anyone cares to do so, just compare say back double bicep shots of Ramy through the years and see if he was more conditioned this year.

BTW, anyone have the exact original this "picture" is based on?
Looks like a painting to me but has been making the rounds past few days showing how Ronnie is the GOAT

Yes he is and the creator of the video has questionable bodybuilding acumen. It's pointless to compare the two anyway. Contests are not judged by watching replays on TV. Onstage in person is all that matters.

It's cgi or something. Left lat too big/full hamstrings weirdly thick calves too big etc. Left arm too big. The artist clearly wanted his body to be almost perfectly symmetrical for whatever reason. 2003 olympia

Prime Ronnie had a better X taper (legs and body combo) than Ramy will ever have.
