Deficit soars as Biden heads out the door
msn ^ | 12/10/2024 | Casey Harper

(The Center Square) – The latest federal numbers show the U.S. deficit is soaring as President Joe Biden heads out of office.

The U.S. Congressional Budget Office released its monthly budget review on Monday, which showed that in the first two months of this fiscal year, the federal government has run up a deficit of $622 billion.

“That amount is $242 billion more than the deficit recorded during the same period last fiscal year,” CBO said in its report.

That figure means the deficit is nearly 40% higher than this time last year.

“The most alarming turkey in November was the federal government’s inability to live within its means,” Maya MacGuineas, president of the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, said in a statement. “We are only two months into the fiscal year, and we have already borrowed a staggering $622 billion, with $365 billion in the month of November alone."

Deficits never surpassed one trillion dollars before the COVID-19 pandemic. Since then, they remain well above one trillion and for this next fiscal year are well beyond the pace to surpass $1 trillion.

The deficit last fiscal year was about $1.8 trillion.

Rotten to the Very End: 3 Days After Election, Biden Handed Iran $10 Billion
MSN ^ | 11 December 2024 | Samuel Short

With the end President Joe Biden's term fast approaching, the 46th president seems determined to enshrine his legacy as one of the worst executives ever.

A recent foreign policy mistake involves Iran -- specifically empowering Iran to further fund terrorism, the Washington Free Beacon reported Tuesday.

According to the Beacon, the administration waived sanctions on Iran three days after the presidential election, which allowed them to access upwards of $10 billion in funds that were previously frozen by the United States.

US Senate rejects Biden labor board nominee, teeing up Republican control

The U.S. Senate on Wednesday rejected Democratic President Joe Biden's nomination of a U.S. labor board official for a new term, giving President-elect Donald Trump a chance to cement Republican control of the agency soon after taking office.

The Senate voted 50-49 against holding a confirmation vote on the nomination of National Labor Relations Board Chair Lauren McFerran, whose term expires next week. Senators Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona, both Democrats who left their party during Biden's term after repeatedly bucking his legislative priorities, provided the decisive votes.
Democrats could make another attempt to hold a vote, but it would likely be futile.

McFerran's nomination was strongly opposed by business groups and many Republicans, who cited a series of recent NLRB decisions and rules that they say unfairly favored unions.
The NLRB generally has three members from the president's party and two from the opposing party. Because their terms are staggered, control of the agency typically does not change hands for a year or two into an administration.

Without McFerran, Democrats will hold a 2-1 majority at the NLRB, which enforces workers' rights to join unions and advocate for better working conditions. That means Trump, who takes office next month, could move quickly to shepherd two nominees through the Senate.

Biden commuted the sentence of the judge who was responsible for the "kids for cash" scheme, i.e. the judge was getting a cut from private for-profit prisons for every kid he sentenced to prison. No surprise that Biden would grant this favor to a scumbag who preyed on children. Maybe for every kid sentenced there was also a 10% for the big guy? Incidentally, both judges in this scheme were Democrats.

Biden stirs outrage in Scranton by commuting 'kids for cash' judge's sentence

President Biden has sparked anger among Pennsylvanians after he commuted the sentence of a corrupt judge who was jailed for more than 17 years after he was caught taking kickbacks for sending juveniles to for-profit detention facilities.

In what came to be known as the kids-for-cash scandal, former Judge Michael Conahan shut down a county-run juvenile detention center and shared $2.8 million in illegal payments from the builder and co-owner of two for-profit lockups. Another judge, Mark Ciavarella, was also involved in the illicit scheme, the effects of which are still felt today among victims and families.

The scandal is considered Pennsylvania’s largest-ever judicial corruption scheme with the state's supreme court throwing out some 4,000 juvenile convictions involving more than 2,300 kids after the scheme was uncovered.

Conahan, 72, pleaded guilty in 2010 to one count of racketeering conspiracy but was released from prison to home confinement in 2020 because of COVID-19 health concerns with six years left in his sentence.

But Biden, the so-called favorite son of Scranton, commuted his sentence Thursday as part of the largest single-day act of clemency in modern history in which he commuted jail sentences for nearly 1,500 people and granted 39 pardons.

The decision has raised questions as to why Biden would choose to commute the sentence of a judge who is detested in the area.

Sandy Fonzo, who once confronted Ciavarella outside federal court after her son was placed in juvenile detention and committed suicide, said that the president’s actions were an "injustice" and "deeply painful."

The scheme began in 2002 when Conahan shut down the state juvenile detention center and used money from the Luzerne County budget to fund a multimillion-dollar lease for the private facilities. Ciavarella, who presided over juvenile court, pushed a zero-tolerance policy that guaranteed large numbers of kids would be sent to PA Child Care and its sister facility, Western PA Child Care.

Ciavarella ordered children as young as 8 to detention, many of them first-time offenders deemed delinquent for petty theft, jaywalking, truancy, smoking on school grounds and other minor infractions. The judge often ordered youths he had found delinquent to be immediately shackled, handcuffed and taken away without giving them a chance to put up a defense or even say goodbye to their families.

In 2022, both Conahan and Ciavarella were ordered to pay more than $200 million to nearly 300 people they victimized, although it's unlikely the now-adult victims will see even a fraction of the damages award.

The scheme, per The Citizens Voice, involved former Pennsylvania attorney Robert Powell paying Ciavarella and Conahan $770,000, who in turn funneled juvenile defendants to two private, for-profit detention centers Powell partly owned.

Powell served an 18-month prison sentence after pleading guilty to felony counts of failing to report a felony and being an accessory to a conspiracy.

Real estate developer Robert K. Mericle paid the judges $2.1 million and was later charged with failing to disclose to investigators and a grand jury that he knew the judges were defrauding the government. Mericle served one year in federal prison, per The Citizens Voice.

Ciavarella is serving a 28-year prison sentence on honest services mail fraud charges, per the publication.

Horrible !   Biden giving away more pardons to the worst ,

Giving away money too:

Racing to get money out the door

The White House said the administration has already awarded 98% of funding available from Biden's core economic laws ‒ which authorized a historic $1 trillion infusion for infrastructure projects, $53 billion in subsidies for microchip companies, and about $400 billion for clean-energy projects, including incentives to support the manufacturing of products like electric cars, solar panels and batteries.

About 93% of funds have been awarded when excluding one of those laws, the American Rescue Plan, which was passed in March 2021 shortly after Biden took office and included programs aimed at recovery during the COVID pandemic.

For example, the Department of Commerce awarded $16 billion in incentives and tax credits last month alone to boost projects to support the creation of microchips, which the White House credits with spurring $180 billion in private investments in the semiconductor industry.

Since the November election, the Biden administration says clean-energy, semiconductor and other advanced manufacturing investments from the private sector have topped $1 trillion as a result of the Biden-backed laws.

This week, the U.S. transferred to Ukraine $20 billion backed by frozen Russian assets ‒ an arrangement orchestrated by the Biden administration as a possible lasting mechanism for the U.S. to provide aid to Ukraine.

In November, egg prices shot up by 8.2% nationwide, logging one of the highest monthly spikes in the past two decades, according to Consumer Price Index data released last week. And it’s not just eggs — shoppers have seen jumps in beef, coffee and non-alcoholic beverages, driving up overall grocery prices to their largest monthly gain since January 2023.

Biden shrinks from view ahead of Trump’s return to Washington

With 42 days left in office, Biden avoids unscripted moments or press questions.

Joe Biden is president of the United States for 42 more days. But within the Democratic Party, on Capitol Hill — and even within his own administration — it feels like he left the Oval Office weeks ago.

Biden has effectively disappeared from the radar in the wake of Democrats’ bruising electoral loss. Since Nov. 5, he’s largely stuck to prepared remarks, avoided unscripted public appearances or press questions and opted to sit out the raging debate over Donald Trump’s victory, policy conversations in Congress and the Democratic Party’s future.

“He’s been so cavalier and selfish about how he approaches the final weeks of the job,” said a former White House official.

Across nearly two weeks abroad since the election, Biden spoke just seven words to the media traveling with him. He has yet to schedule a post-election press conference, as Presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush did when they were on their way out of office. He went to the Rose Garden to publicly praise a cease-fire between Israel and Hezbollah, met with Israeli President Isaac Herzog and spoke to the press Sunday about Bashar Al-Assad fleeing Syria, but otherwise his post-election domestic schedule has been filled with events such as honoring the 2024 NBA champions, thanking longtime supporters at a South Lawn dinner and participating in a Friendsgiving event.

“There is no leadership coming from the White House,” one Democrat close to senior lawmakers stated bluntly. “There is a total vacuum.”

Some have been saying that Biden is senile and has been like that before the 2020 elections but up until the day the party removed him, the regime and the establishment media, complicit in the coverup, kept parroting how he is "sharp as a tack" and anyone who says otherwise is a conspiracy theorist, shill, idiot etc. Imagine how bad it is now.

How the White House Functioned With a Diminished Biden in Charge

https://www.wsj.com/politics/biden-white-house-age-function-diminished-3906a839

Quote
To adapt the White House around the needs of a diminished leader, they told visitors to keep meetings focused. Interactions with senior Democratic lawmakers and some cabinet members—including powerful secretaries such as Defense’s Lloyd Austin and Treasury’s Janet Yellen—were infrequent or grew less frequent. Some legislative leaders had a hard time getting the president’s ear at key moments, including ahead of the U.S.’s disastrous pullout from Afghanistan.

Senior advisers were often put into roles that some administration officials and lawmakers thought Biden should occupy, with people such as National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, senior counselor Steve Ricchetti and National Economic Council head Lael Brainard and her predecessor frequently in the position of being go-betweens for the president.

Press aides who compiled packages of news clips for Biden were told by senior staff to exclude negative stories about the president. The president wasn’t talking to his own pollsters as surveys showed him trailing in the 2024 race.

Throughout his presidency, a small group of aides stuck close to Biden to assist him, especially when traveling or speaking to the public. “They body him to such a high degree,” a person who witnessed it said, adding that the “hand holding” is unlike anything other recent presidents have had.

The president’s slide has been hard to overlook. While preparing last year for his interview with Robert K. Hur, the special counsel who investigated Biden’s handling of classified documents, the president couldn’t recall lines that his team discussed with him. At events, aides often repeated instructions to him, such as where to enter or exit a stage, that would be obvious to the average person. Biden’s team tapped campaign co-chairman Jeffrey Katzenberg, a Hollywood mogul, to find a voice coach to improve the president’s fading warble.

The system put Biden at an unusual remove from cabinet secretaries, the chairs of congressional committees and other high-ranking officials. It also insulated him from the scrutiny of the American public.

A sign that the bruising presidential schedule needed to be adjusted for Biden’s advanced age had arisen early on—in just the first few months of his term. Administration officials noticed that the president became tired if meetings went long and would make mistakes.

They issued a directive to some powerful lawmakers and allies seeking one-on-one time: The exchanges should be short and focused, according to people who received the message directly from White House aides.

Ideally, the meetings would start later in the day, since Biden has never been at his best first thing in the morning, some of the people said. His staff made these adjustments to limit potential missteps by Biden, the people said. The president, known for long and rambling sessions, at times pushed in the opposite direction, wanting or just taking more time. The White House denied that his schedule has been altered due to his age.

If the president was having an off day, meetings could be scrapped altogether. On one such occasion, in the spring of 2021, a national security official explained to another aide why a meeting needed to be rescheduled. “He has good days and bad days, and today was a bad day so we’re going to address this tomorrow,” the former aide recalled the official saying.

One lawmaker who did get one-on-one time with Biden noticed that the president lacked stamina and heavily relied on his staff: Sen. Joe Manchin, the West Virginia Democrat-turned-independent who held up chunks of Biden’s legislative agenda during the first half of Biden’s term. Manchin said the job required a level of energy that he wasn’t sure Biden had been able to sustain.

Instead of Biden directing follow up, Manchin noticed that Biden’s staff played a much bigger role driving his agenda than he had experienced in other administrations. Manchin referred to them as the “eager beavers”—a group that included then-White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain. “They were going, ‘I’ll take care of that,’ ” Manchin said.

Interactions between Biden and many of his cabinet members were relatively infrequent and often tightly scripted. At least one cabinet member stopped requesting calls with the president, because it was clear that such requests wouldn’t be welcome, a former senior cabinet aide said.

Over four years, Biden held 9 full cabinet meetings—three in 2021, two in 2022, three in 2023 and just one this year.
In their first terms, Obama held 19 and Trump held 25, according to data compiled by former CBS News correspondent Mark Knoller.

Biden’s team also insulated him on the campaign trail. In the summer of 2023, one prominent Democratic donor put together a small event for Biden’s re-election bid. The donor was shocked when a campaign official told him that attendees shouldn’t expect to have a free ranging question-and-answer session with the president. Instead, the organizer was told to send in two or three questions ahead of time that Biden would answer.

At some events, the Biden campaign printed the pre-approved questions on notecards and then gave donors the cards to read the questions. Even with all these steps, Biden made flubs, which confounded the donors who knew that Biden had the questions ahead of time. Some donors said they noticed how staff stepped in to mask other signs of decline.

These aides, which include Annie Tomasini and Ashley Williams, were often with the president as he traveled and stayed within earshot or eye distance, the people said. They would often repeat basic instructions to him, such as where to enter or exit a stage.
