Larry Wheels - 855lb deadlift x 3 - but pulls lat

"Larry Wheels notches another personal record into his belt after pulling off a massive 855lb deadlift triple, but gets injured afterwards

Posting to Instagram, the 26 year old took us inside the gym with him for a deadlift session. What ended up happening was him pulling a gigantic 855lb (387kg) for a triple, which was a personal best.  The last few weeks have seen Larry really suggesting that he is looking to transition to the world of strongman. He confirmed that this was the case in the full video of this training session, which he uploaded to YouTube.

“I intend on doing strongman in the future,” Wheels said. “Don’t know exactly when because nothing is concrete right now, but that is my intention.”

Unfortunately this full video also revealed that Larry got injured during this training session. While doing a drop set of 685lb, he suddenly dropped the bar amidst a rep.  Following this, Wheels proclaimed to his training partner that he injured a lat. After taking a second, he explained that he plans to get it checked for a tear, but that he does not believe it to be too serious.

“Maybe it’s just muscle and not a tendon coming off the bone like my bicep.”

Hahaha!  Judging by the lack of replies, GetBig  doesn't give a flying fvck about Larry any more.  Losing the arm-wrestling to that Russian school kid was worse for him than I thought...

Somebody please drag this thread out the back and shoot it... ;D

Completely freakish pulling strength, straps or not.

However, his awesome response to mountains of gear was always destined to prove disastrous for his health and well being.

The guy is not even 30 and he’s tearing shit and yanking other shit. And we all know his internals are surely struggling, as well.

One more thing.

Strongman? He’s much too small. Clearly he’s capable of making good showings, but against the top brutes, he’s never going to cut it.

If he makes a serious attempt to join those elite ranks, he’s gonna stroke out, fry a kidney, tear multiple other muscles, etc.

It’s reality.

2020 WSM winner, Oleksii Novikov, is 6'1" and around 280-290 pounds.  If Larry dedicates himself to Strongman, he can easily get to that size.

2019 winner, Martins Licis, is 6'2" and just a hair over 300 pounds.

Lately, the winners haven't been behemoths.  Larry's a c*nt, but he could probably do well in Strongman if he stays healthy.  (Which is admittedly unlikely!)

You have a point.

But my gut says he’s just not built (not what you see) the same as those Viking guys.

Like Ronnie, and a majority of chocolate faces, he’s not of the same structural integrity as the white fellas.

Larry is DEDICATED  to powerlifting, switching over to strongman events wouldnt be that big of a change for him.

As Fortess said his ability to withstand injuries will be the biggest factor in his success.

Genuinely hadn't realised that, I'd have put him later in his 30s...

I don't really follow the strength-based stuff, so the last time I saw a muscle-man pull something like that was Dallas McCarver a few years ago...

So I wonder if Mr Wheels is a 10 gram kind of guy?  (Rhetorical question, obv)

Licis is 340-355lbs. And why is Larry a c*nt? You met him?

He was listed at 320-330 a year or two ago.  If he's 355lbs now, he's heavier than he was when he won WSM.
Larry is annoying.

Either that or "Like Ronnie, and a majority of chocolate faces", Wheels has no interest in strongman competitions.

Unless I'm mistaken, I don't see a lot of Americans (of any color) having that much interest and the last American to win a WSM competition was Phil Pfizer nearly 15 years ago. That is, he won the MET-Rx World's Strongest Man title in 2006. Prior to that, it'd been nearly 25 years since an American (Kazmaier) won a WSM championship.

The closest I recall was that fellow who was also a cop, Derek Pounstone. He missed winning the title by a whisker. That big boulder slipped out of his hands as he was in the lead. He lost the event and the points needed.

Larry vs Haftor armwrestling was interesting. Haftor is far from peak strength though, but still...

Brian shaw?

I forgot about him, since Flex went belly up last year/got merged into Muscle & Fitness. Did he win the MET-Rx WSM contest, the one on ESPN that is shown nearly a year after it actually occurred?

But, that somewhat makes my point. Only three Americans have won that title in the span of almost 35 years.

Thanks. That's the WSM contest with which I'm the most familiar. When was his first win? And have any Americans won the title between Pfister in 2006 and Shaw's first win?

2011 I think, licis won it a year ago representing America but was born elsewhere and moved to states when still a young laddie, don’t think any American win between phister and shaw

Thanks. Maybe there are more Americans interested in WSM contests than I originally thought. Nearly 25 years between Kazmaier and Pfister gave me the impression that interest was low, even with Poundstone almost winning it that one time.

As for black WSM competitors, I think I've seen two my entire lifetime but don't recall names.

Edit - Black competitors in MET-Rx WSM contests. Mark Henry got dubbed "World's Strongest Man", based on his powerlifting totals in the mid-90s and his winning the first Arnold Classic Strongman contest in 2002. But, he wasn't in a MET-Rx WSM competition.

Larry has small joints and would not compete with the big boned Europeans.

I find his deadlift very impressive, but i don't see him going far in strongman.

He's going to gas out in a few years and end up in a wheelchair like Ronnie.

I've heard that name occasionally in MuscleMag International and another dude name Grizzly Brown. But, I thought they were both strictly powerlifters. I didn't know they did WSM contests.

Those are the only two I recognized off the top of my head, besides Mark Henry.

Ronnie Coleman had nagging injuries, some from his college football days I think, that he never got fixed. They eventually caught up with him.
