Upgrading mountain bike to ebike
« on: February 19, 2021, 03:18:31 PM »
So I bought an old mountain bike off ebay some time ago and decided to upgrade it

Front shocks
replaced a few other parts
Then 1000w Voilamart rear wheel
48v battery

It will do 30mph on the flat and 20mph offroad

Pretty crazy speeds for a 20kg bike. Its not a 150kg motorbike.

Quite a lot of fun as well.

It is a folding Dahon bike hence weird looking frame.

Nice split saddle so you don't bruise your vulva

When are you painting it pink?

Simon Cowell that judge from American Idol broke his back in several places and needed a six hour operation with metal rods after he crashed his E bike.  30 miles an hour is sick fast on a bike that can't stop that great because of the weight and crappy brakes.

I don't understand why guys don't want to pedal bikes anymore.

QFT

E  bikes are a scourge. people who are too lazy to pedal and too cheap to buy a car, motorcycle...or take the bus.  Plus these assholes ride them in the city taking half a lane of traffic making it Impossible to pass and slowing down everyone else on the road....

I don't get it either. Get a real motorbike if you don't feel like pedaling.

I think this is just another way to get unfit people on a bike they call "excercise".

Marketing gimmick IMO

Gay. Get a real ebike mountain bike.

https://www.ghost-bikes.com/en/e-bikes/fully/bike/e-riot-trail-pro-2021

thats only a 250 watt motor. nice bike though but basically a downhill no power and uphill pedal assist set up.

high spec ebikes are about $6-8k. I build mine for about $1200.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/UK-Stock-52V-2000W-E-Bike-Rear-Conversion-Kit-52V-BATTERY-17Ah-27-5-/313255104243

2000w rear wheel would be crazy even on a full suspension frame 27.5" wheels and hydraulic brakes

the main difference between a bike and a motorbike is with a bike it weighs 20kgs, so you are the object that is moving, whereas a motorbike weighing 150-200kgs, you are clinging on to the top of it. obviously a motorbike has way more power and torque.

The E bike craze hasn't hit NJ yet. I assume it's big in California and the other west coast states. If I wanted to scoot around and not peddle for local rides I would rather have a small street legal on/off road dirt motorcycle. Honda makes a 125 that goes for about $3700.  It will go 65 so it's good for non highway driving.
