He didn't show that the released prisoners committed the crimes. He suggested it but gave us no details about who got arrested. My guess would be that the extra murders resulted from domestic ugliness of dickheads locked in together. The vast majority of murders don't involve strangers.

Not in NYC. It's mostly gangs cleaning each other out. Quiet for years, but now you've got the ability to wear masks unquestioned, plus slower police response times, guys are taking their chances at settling grudges. Regular street crime is up, and a decent amount of that is the changing bail reform laws. Lots of folks that were housed by the system are now on the street with no where to go, so they mix in with the regular (already usually crazy) homeless population. You're getting a lot more bum fights, muggings, etc....

My opinion is the depth of the crime problem in NY city is buried by the large overall population.  Crimes per thousand people don't look so bad when you have a population of a eight million people in the city.  St Louis may have worse crime statistics than NY City, but I know the crime in NY is just as bad as St Louis.

My opinion is the depth of the crime problem in NY city is buried by the large overall population.  Crimes per thousand people don't look so bad when you have a population of a eight million people in the city.  St Louis may have worse crime statistics than NY City, but I know the crime in NY is just as bad as St Louis.

New York's gang problem is big, but major violence was confined to certain areas, and it actually took a lot of trying to get shot in NY. Guys would get beat up, slashed, etc...., but shootings were rare for a city this size. Most of that was because of - 1) proactive policing, even with CCRB, etc.... guys were getting stopped and at least talked to, so they weren't carrying as often. Now all of that's stopped. 2) high end cameras are almost everywhere because of building codes, and just NY being NY. I can't count how many times I've seen things that might of gone violent stopped because of someone being reminded there were cameras.

Also there has always been more street crime in NYC that gets reported because of Compstat policing, and the lying that goes on with it (www.reuters.com/article/us-crime-newyork-statistics/nypd-report-confirms-manipulation-of-crime-stats-idUSBRE82818620120309). But it's just been so violent the last year and 1/2 compared to the last 20, that there's no way to hide it.

Also the crime rate has jumped up huge in the subways. Once that happens, everyone takes notice, it's no longer hidden. Black, White, rich, poor, everyone uses them.

I used to live in St Louis, so I know the city quite well.  I've been to Chicago's South side a couple of times and to New York city.  If you were just to look at the statistics, it would show St Louis has much higher crime than Chicago or New York.  In reality New York and Chicago have just as much crime as St Louis.

Same thing in Houston, it's 3-4 areas of town that make up all the violent crime.

And surprise! These are the blackest parts of town.

The Mayor of Houston has no interest in cleaning up these areas, he wants to blend these areas into the neighboring areas.

What's crazy about most of Houston, due to lack of property zoning, is that you have million dollar houses a few blocks away from the poorest parts of town. What the Dem's that run the city want to do is merge these areas together and then wonder why the rich white people are moving to the suburbs. All of the rich urban areas have 10-foot tall fences and gates around the homes; it wasn't like this 20 years ago. Also they have private security to patrol the area to keep the thugs out.

Don't discount street racing as a crime.  It's actually a huge problem throughout America.  In the past I wouldn't have seen it as an issue, but the reality is they have 600 hp cars running full out on public streets.  It's a very dangerous situation.

It is a problem, but when you consider it is a relatively victimless crime i could care less.

Racing on empty roads at 3am doesn't concern me. It's the idiots racing through traffic who do the damage, and they are typically just morons with fast cars, not legit street racers.

I think two people in a city of 4 million died last year due to it.

When you focus on the minority crimes, the majority crimes grow.
