This is exactly right. It wouldn't surprise me if a new rapid-response force formed under a different name with the same guys who resigned this one, mainly to protest officer Corey Budworth being charged by a Multnomah County grand jury with one count of fourth-degree assault, which is a misdemeanor. Budworth, 40, was placed on paid administrative leave last Tuesday.
The police union characterized the prosecution as politically driven and said Budworth’s baton strike to a woman’s head was “accidental,” not criminal.
Presumably something like that was the cause, if not specifically that.
A lot of police officers are growing tired of the social pressure of essentially not being allowed to defend themselves - and rightfully so. You have BLM protesters rioting over the death of Black men who opened fire on the police - as was the case recently in Minnesota.
It's completely ridiculous.
