Those implants are usually for totally deaf people. Lou has always been able to hear but just needed a hearing aid.

Strange...Cochlear implants are not like "normal" hearing. They send an electrical signal that so differs from what we know as hearing/words/sounds that the wearer must re-learn all sounds. Or so I am told. Rush Limbaugh had to relearn what it was to "hear". I had a friend that got this done decades earlier and she said she had to learn what she was "hearing" all over again.

I did not see any device affixed to Lou's head. Perhaps they have made them much smaller and actually implanted in the ear canal now?
