Strange...Cochlear implants are not like "normal" hearing. They send an electrical signal that so differs from what we know as hearing/words/sounds that the wearer must re-learn all sounds. Or so I am told. Rush Limbaugh had to relearn what it was to "hear". I had a friend that got this done decades earlier and she said she had to learn what she was "hearing" all over again.I did not see any device affixed to Lou's head. Perhaps they have made them much smaller and actually implanted in the ear canal now?
They are implanted in the ear but I think they have a "power pack" they wear on their belt. It is strange that Lou would get the implant for the reason you stated. Lou could always hear, just needed a hearing aid. The sounds being so different with the natural hearing seems like it would be confusing.
