Any of y’all meditate?
« on: July 14, 2021, 06:18:07 PM »
I’m getting older, and while I’ve got more patience I guess, when I do finally blow a gasket it’s pretty bad. I don’t think it’s good to be so wound up. My blood pressure over the last year has been high at times, and normal at times, but it used to always be normal. I was talking to an older buddy and I asked him what he does to clear the bullshit and he told me he just goes to a room everyday for ten minutes or so and just “concentrates on breathing” I asked, like meditating? He said call it whatever you want, but just going somewhere and breathing and only thinking about the breathing for just a few minutes has been very helpful for him. Anybody have any success with this type of thing?

I always want to try this but never end up doing it. People tell me it works wonders for them but I see it as a waste of time but one day I would like to try it as I’m a pretty pissed off guy.

Masturbate likely far more popular in these parts.

It works.

I used to do it every day when i was struggling with anxiety. I still do every now and then. I'm one of the calmest people you will ever meet, nothing bothers me. In fact, my GF and people at work think i'm too calm. They think i should be more anxious and nervous, but i'm not and will not be. I learned how to "let things go" a long time ago. Most things that trigger stress are self imposed, we are doing it to ourselves.

You need to find a calm and quiet place. Find your space and use it for meditation. Once you get good at it you can do it anywhere. But at first you need a familiar relaxing place to learn.

It takes a long time to get good at it. It's not just breathing, it's a complete state of relaxation.

Learn how to let things go. Think to yourself when you are worried, "can i do anything about this RIGHT NOW"? If the answer is yes, then do it; if the answer is no, learn to let it go.

The stress you have in life is 100% your choice. You can chose at anytime to release it and move on.

I learned from a Vietnamese Buddhist monk like 16 years ago.

There are some books on it too.

Without the religious undertones, the Buddhist way is very good.

But there are many.

That is true.

It helps in the immediate sense, but doesn't solve the problem.

your bloodpressure has probably more to do with taking steroids and getting older.

Meditation works for some.  Give it a try.

Also, try Mindfulness.  Bunch of different (and easy) ways similar to meditation.
