Not sure if anyone, other than hardcore sycophants and extreme TDS cases can support him after that.

Do they really expect any thinking person to draw the conclusion that was just a bad night and would never happen again?

This is really odd.

Yeah. They’re stuck between a rock and a hard place in the sense that if Biden or the campaign projects any doubt or “weakness” (apart from what was on display at the debate), then it’s all over. So their only option is to pretend.

They really aren’t fooling anyone (except, perhaps, as you said some hardcore supporters, but even that seems hard).

I think it’s smart to not take the test, from a political standpoint. There’s nothing for him to gain and taking such an exam can only hurt him. If he passes, even if it is with flying colors, the mere fact that he was forced to take such a test and publish the results is damaging. And the test results won’t make the concerns raised by the debate go away. People saw what they saw.

His only path forward would be to get out there, day in and day out, pounding the pavement. To be control of his facial expressions, speaking well, without mumbling and trailing off, answering questions on the fly and citing facts without making any mistakes. Of course, that’s a challenge even for someone in their prime.

So yeah, he wouldn’t do that, even if he could. I don’t think there’s much he can do to address the damage from the debate. Taking a test would be political suicide.

That’s not to say I object to presidential/vice-presidential candidates from having to submit to a full health checkup, including cognitive and mental health, summary results of which are made public for the voters to consider. In fact, I think it should be mandatory.

The fact is that cognitive tests have been a routine part of annual physical/wellness visits since 2011 as part of the Affordable Care Act for detection of possible cognitive impairment. There should be no need to make a special issue of doing this. Cognitive impairment can happen to anyone at any age for varied reasons. It is not strictly a geriatric condition.

I have said for a while that I was not sure it would end up Trump v Biden, and I'm still not sure.  If they are going to run Biden, it's because they want to keep the campaign contribution $ and funnel that money to win the House or Senate.  I know there have to be plenty of Democrats who are extremely worried - the question is, did they have their head in the sand, were they willfully ignorant, or are they just panicking because what they knew all along was exposed.

But I am also not discounting the hatred for Trump, a lapdog media, or any shady stuff - maybe Biden could still win.  I wouldn't bet it, but I don't pretend to be able to predict anything in American politics with certainty now.  If the Dems are thinking long term, they'd apply enough pressure to get him to step down so they can possibly retain some credibility.

With the media spending more time trying to convince people that Biden is mentally fit or that Kamala has a chance of running for president, they are spending less time trashing Trump.

The bigger question is if, (and it is a big if) anyone can get Biden to stepdown, who will replace him that has a better chance of beating Trump is this race to hell? Any suggestions? Personally, I am stumped about this dilemma.

Good point. It is time to get back to trashing Trump.

It’s an unspoken thing that’s going on. Biden continues on, the voters who hate Trump will still vote Biden no matter what, and all of these people will breathe a sigh of relief once he dies or resigns right after he’s elected again.

I disagree about the mental exam.  Trump took one and released the results.  Biden should do the same, because it's the right thing to do.

I think if he and his team knew he would pass it with flying colors they would absolutely release the results.

The bigger question is whether Biden is competent to be POTUS right now.

BIDEN: “Even when I was running for Senate, each time I ran, quite frankly, not a joke, Philadelphia, in particular, got me across the line”

Joe was a Senator from DELAWARE. Not Pennsylvania.

Word salad.  He cannot put two complete sentences together.

Joe Biden’s response to being asked if he realized how bad the debate was going while it was happening:

“Yeah, look. The whole way I prepared, nobody's fault, mine. Nobody's fault but mine. I, uh-- I prepared what I usually would do sittin' down as I did come back with foreign leaders or National Security Council for explicit detail. And I realized--bout partway through that, you know, all-- I get quoted the New York Times had me down, at ten points before the debate, nine now, or whatever the hell it is. The fact of the matter is, what I looked at is that he also lied 28 times. I couldn't-- I mean, the way the debate ran, not-- my fault, no one else's fault, no one else's fault.”

Biden should undergo ‘detailed cognitive and movement disorder testing,’ Sanjay Gupta says
Gupta said low sleep, low blood sugar levels, or illness could have contributed to his debate performance.

No matter who it is that undergoes a 'mental' (do you mean cognitive) exam, who is to say what is released following it is accurate or even truthful, particularly what is released to the media? When a president takes a cognitive exam, exposing that he or she is in serious cognitive decline is a security risk for the country. Our enemies might take this as being to their clear advantage.

This likely will never happen, but there should be either age limits or a mandated physical and mental exams prior to folks being nominated for any important political office to help ensure they can do the job and to assist the voting public in choosing the most viable candidate.

Also, once someone is elected to office, they should be required to have a complete health exam annually. This should also be a requirement whenever a deficiency is reasonably suspected.
