Do you not understand what I said? We are all going to be exposed to this virus no matter what. You catch it and get over it like 99.9% of the people who get it, or you catch it and die. Those are the options. There is no option where we magically make it go away without everyone being exposed. It will never go away. We can either get through it as quickly and painlessly as possible, or we can drag it out and make it a multi-decade affair where we destroy the industrialized world and enslave the world population. It will never go away otherwise. By expending so much effort and making so many sacrifices to try to make it go away you are taking the latter course.
Do you not understand that you may be wrong?
So in essence what you are saying is do nothing. Everyone should go about their lives as they would in absence of the virus. Let the virus thrive and mutate indefinitely because that's what it will do anyway. That the COVID Delta mutation is filling hospitals with patients, many of whom are younger than during earlier phases of the pandemic is of no concern.
Herd immunity is not achieved without an effective vaccine in most cases. For COVID-19, the percentage of the population that needs to be infected to achieve herd immunity is estimated to be between 70% and 90%, and this is
assuming lasting immunity is possible. It's looking like either getting COVID or being vaccinated for it may not result in lasting immunity. So like you said it is never going away....well, not until everyone is dead. At the rate this virus mutates, that could happen a lot sooner than some imagine.
Here is a current list of diseases vaccines prevent. Some of these will make you sick and you'll get better, others can kill you.
Chickenpox (Varicella)
Diphtheria
Flu (Influenza)
Hepatitis A
Hepatitis B
Hib
HPV (Human Papillomavirus)
Measles
Meningococcal
Mumps
Pneumococcal
Polio
Rotavirus
Rubella
Tetanus
Whooping Cough (Pertussis)
