The field in the movie was simple and natural.

The existing facility is far too commercialized and manicured.

I watched it (DVR) and really enjoyed it. You're right, this was real sport in it's raw elements.
I sucked as a baseball player, but I'm a big MLB fan.

I can’t imagine any other actor playing that role other than Kevin Costner. Maybe Ted Danson could have done a good job, but Kevin was perfect for that role.
