He's a good dog, a rescue. Loves people...
Other dogs, not so much. Strays have a tendency to get into fights.
One Shepherd came at us when we were on a walk, a mistake. This dog (Buddy) just grabbed it by the neck and held it down. Shepherd couldnt move, though it was trying.
Took me a bit to get it loose from him. The kvnt started yelling about his dog getting ripped up a bit. My adrenaline was flying at that point (Im normally laid back, barely have a pulse),
but light-up on the guy and sort of went after him foaming at the mouth. His other neighbor said he'd rather tangle w/ the dog than with me, LOL.
His own son came out and read the guy the riot act for visiting him and having his dog running loose.
The son (home owner) has an electric fence for his own dog, his father thought it was a good idea to let his own run loose.
Maybe the guy learned something, I know I did. When a loose dog comes at us, run away and try to avoid it.
This is my last big dog, after Buddy I'll get some little wimp I can carry on a walk.
Ever since I was a tot, I always had at least one or more often a couple of dogs (to keep each other company). Most of them have been what I'd term medium size dogs except for the three Great Danes. Not one of all these dogs over the years had a bad temperament. They all were lovers, not fighters.
At almost 14, Lucy, a Rat Terrier is old like me. In dog years she's 98 years old to my 78 years of age. Our walks are becoming shorter and shorter. When she gets tired, I carry her. She weighs 13 lbs.
I brought Lucy home when she was six weeks old. -Caught a lot of flak from friends because she was 'rescued' from a local pet store at considerable expense which is not PC. She is dog royalty in that she has a pedigree. My wife wasn't happy about me getting another dog and had nothing to do with her at first. Eventually she warmed up to her. Lucy laid on the couch next to my wife or in her lap. She was a real companion.
A year or so back, Lucy decided to become a super fussy eater. She eats well. For a while, I was cooking up a batch of food every week, ground chicken or Turkey, specific veggies, and brown rice. For the past 6 months I have bought her food from 'The Farmer's Dog' online
https://www.thefarmersdog.com. It is not cheap, but she loves it, so that's what she gets.
