I've read that in terms of violent crime the numbers are actually lower than they've ever been, or at least on par with the numbers of the 60s, however due to media coverage people believe it's the worst it's ever been.
It is considerably higher than the 1960’s.

You would have to drill down into the numbers to get a true picture. The population now is 50% higher than it was in the 1960s.I would bet that per capita crime among Caucasians is at all time lows.
