Didn't the Taliban stamp out the opium trade?

I certainly don't want to live in an Islamic caliphate, but I can think of a few things the Taliban are doing with only the first item following an order of importance that are alright.

1. a. Not putting up with female tyranny whereby women manipulate nearly all social interactions and policies for their benefit, increasingly be given the majority of professional positions, sexually manipulate men, ruin the family unit, and generally act like a bunch of stupid whores.
2. Putting an end to the opium trade. 
4. Putting an end to pederasty (I forgot the name for this sick practice).
5. Putting an end to usury.

Whether the Taliban are actually drug dealers despite the above five items, has nothing to do with the items being alright.

Aside from point 4, I know all this doesn't sit well with libertarians who prefer an anything-goes shit show.

Society needs to stop coddling nonfunctional addicts.  I do not know of any functional meth heads (never met Ayn Rand  ).  If you want to take drugs fine, but if you end up on the streets in a tent the city needs to be able to kick you out. 

Society's lack of emphasis on personal responsibility will be a large part of its downfall.

But when it comes specifically to the legality of drugs, I just think the Portugal model is more effective at minimising the damage that druggies do to the wider community (and themselves) than the beheading model

In fact I think I read/heard somewhere recently that Scotland had the highest number of drug deaths per 100k of the population and Portugal the lowest, so make of that what you will...
