T-Nation: Out of all the men you competed with and met, who were the biggest gentlemen and who were the biggest jerks?

MQ: Almost all the guys were real gentlemen back then: Lee Haney, Lee Labrada, Berry DeMey, Mike Christian, Ron Love, and Bob Paris. Toward the end when I was competing, two European guys, both now dead, struck me as being the same way. That was Andreas Munzer and Momo Benaziza.

The only jerk I knew from my day was Shawn Ray. I was standing next to him once when this young kid, maybe ten or eleven years old, walks up with his mom to Shawn. The kid's mom says her son has Shawn’s pictures up all over his bedroom wall and would love an autograph. Shawn just blew him off and walked away. I felt so bad I gave him one of my photos and signed it. Later I got a letter from the mom saying her son had torn down all of Shawn’s pictures and put mine up.

Tis' true Shawn?

i met mike back in 1997 when he lived in spain for a while,trained in the same gym and talked about everithing he really says things by their name and i learned a few things from him

there just seems to be tooo many stories about shawn being an arrogant prick for it not to be true. great bodybuilder obviously but from what you read he dont seem like hes got alot of class as a person

Yea, Quinn seems like a credible source for EXACT info, was this before or after he got out of Rehab?
Mike and I never were friends, he was the Tamali of his day so would I expect him to say anything nice, ah.......No.
End story, the kid might have been Tamali and he grew up in the basement to rear his ugly head in the early 2000's. How quickly he's disappeared after the layoffs at Micky Deeeeeeeezzzzzzzzzzzzzz!

I have to Admit that Mike Quinn was the true badboy of bodybuilding. He wasn't trying to be a bad ass. He was one naturally. Forget Craig titus and all those bad boy wanna be's. Mighty mike was the Original. period. I just hope he come back to bodybuilding again

Mike is not a junkie. He trains people, works for a friend of mine and is a family man now. Living in the Coral Springs area, he has mellowed as naturally happens for many who grow up and older.

i saw the same shit happen at the 91 olympia in orlando florida. shawn i think was coming out of the press con or something and a kid asked him for an autograph and shawn said "sorry i gotta go eat".
he may be a diff guy now but that im sure killed the kid and i knew it as a fact from watching shawn was a cock back then.

Why is everybody comparing Titus to Mike Quinn? Mike has a conscience and seems like a good guy. Titus is just a criminal junky and organizer of orgy parties.

Shawn already got his ass handed to him by Flex all of those years so hahaha little Ray never got to where he could'a been!

Also Derrem Charles was a natural as a pro? My inspiration. I read Melvin was aslo natural for a while and competed at natural shows.
