Here in Sante Fe it's the typical liberal virtue signaling mask thing. Not because it's required but because the people here are a little nutty. Many see it as a chance to show their true colors, similar to those who show their profile picture on social media with a mask or vaccine/booster "badge". Oh brother.
The state has been open since April/May. No regulations other than wear a mask indoors and maintain social distancing.
They stopped taking peoples temperatures and requiring hand sanitizer about 6 months ago. They also stopped making people sign in for tracking, which i always gave a fake name anyway because fuck the government.
It really depends where you are in the state. I travel a lot for work and the only places i see people wearing masks are in the big City.
Even here where i live it's not really enforced, i haven't worn a mask anywhere in almost a year. Only wear them when i go into governmental offices because they will enforce it.
Up in the mountains near my house nobody wears a mask, but sometimes you see people wearing them inside, while driving or while hiking, which always makes me laugh.
Our vaccination rate is about 72% and our rates of infection and death rates have never been concerning (in my opinion, hospitals never exceeded their normal usage rates). I think it's more due to the low population and lack of density. Oddly enough the two counties with the worst Covid problems are the counties with the two largest cities. Go figure.
I'd consider NM 100% open, but the Queen has been threatening to "shut us down" again. Whatever that means. She will do whatever Biden says. They are trying to enforce the vaccine mandate for businesses, but haven't been successful.
Weed will be 100% legal on April 1, so that's something to look forward to.

They also recently banned the sale of small 1 oz bottles of liquor.
Glad they have their priorities straight.
