One can only imagine just how much more he and those of that time period cioukld have lifted with more modern technique/groove. He was (*and this is in no way dissing him, it's a testament to just how bloody strong he really was) by modern standards hardly bending the knees at all, just hoisting the weight upward to the shoulders or overhead for the snatch. Paul Anderson lifted in a similar fashion. So did Doug Hepburn, though he was further exacerbated by being born with a club foot and a childhood surgery basically fused that ankle altogether. Just brutally strong badasses of a bygone era
