Vaccinated people can still pass and spread the virus. The vaccines reduce hospitalizations and severe outcomes only, not prevent the spread. In fact, given that vaccinated people comprise more new Omicron variant cases than their share of the population, there is actually a slight POSITIVE correlation between vaccination and COVID spread.

But to be clear:

Vaccinated people CAN and DO pass the virus to other people.

This has been beyond established by now.

I live in a detached home, alone, and I live off my savings.

I'm here. I know two people who died from COVID-19. Neither had a comorbidity. One, was a senior male around my age and the other was a woman in her 40's. I stopped reading the daily list of COVID deaths in the Oregonian about 6 months ago.

As for the healthy woman in her 40s, I just don't believe this.  Does "no comorbidities" mean not fat and no health conditions?  The not fat you can know, but how do you know the health status?  I don't believe it.  More likely you don't know her health status or you are discounting some health conditions because you don't know it to be a comorbidity.

These were not strangers. Matt said no one you know. That is a very bold statement to make. He doesn't know everyone I or anyone else reading his post knows.

The fellow was little less senior than me. I am 77 years old. He was my son-in-law's uncle. A retired attorney who lived a healthy lifestyle. It is interesting that his widow whose health is compromised and their adult son also got COVID at about the same time. They both survived it.

I knew the woman because like me, she was an activist for the same union I belong to and we'd participated union events together. She was a school district employee. She was not fat. If she had any illnesses that made her more vulnerable to COVID, neither I nor any of her other friends knew it. Her immediate family said they didn't either. There is no reason to think they'd lie about this.

I'm grateful that not more of the folks in my circle of friends and family succumbed to COVID. It is a pandemic and anyone who thinks otherwise has their heads buried in the sand. I guess denial is easier when you ignore reality, which is that a lot of people have died from or with COVID who would otherwise still be alive.

I hope you are right and this whole COVID business is a giant hoax and that it only kills the old and health compromised. I should breathe easy because, although I am old, I am incredibly healthy. By no stretch of judgment am I fat or even slightly overweight. I've never had the flu that I know of, meaning if I had it, I had no symptoms. Incidentally, I also had no real symptoms from any of the three Moderna COVID vaccines. My primary care doctor says I am in better health than most of his patients in their 30's...not bad for a great-grandfather of 77.

Realistically, I do not fear contracting COVID. Even if I did get it, chances are I'd be fine. I also don't have a lot of fear I will have an auto accident or my house will burn down...never-the-less, I buy auto and fire insurance. I don't worry about going broke because the bulk of my income is from guaranteed annuities and low risk investments...but I still maintain a savings account and a ton of equity in my house to tap, should that happen. I buy health insurance even though I rarely need it.

A few minutes spent getting jabbed with a needle and the inconvenience of having to wear a mask (because it is mandated) is  inconsequential as compared to the risk of contracting or worse, spreading an occasionally deadly virus.
