In a properly functioning society with a government that represents the will and consent of the governed (i.e. the only legitimate form of govt) a Supreme Court is not something that should matter to the people.  They may decide small issues of technical dispute, but not societal norms and culture.

That's how it used to be and how it was intended to be.  People govern themselves through their duly elected representatives.

As a matter of theory, I'm not convinced that such governance ever existed. I'm not sure it can. There's always going to be some issue where the government isn't representing the will of.a significant portion of the population. What then?

I guess we're supposed to have some overarching faith in administrative benevolence such that particular instances of non-representation don't constitute a breach sufficient to remove our consent. But I don't see proof of that these days. I see consent being extorted.

The question I'm asking shouldn't ever be asked. When these questions occur to people, something is very wrong.

It's pretty obvious at this point that we have an intentional imbalance of power between the 3 branches of govt.

The legislative branch is grabbing power by sending the court radical laws to review that would have never passed normal scrutiny in the past. That in itself unduly influences the court that doesn't strike down much in the last few decades.

Obviously the executive couldn't be any weaker than it is right now unless there wasn't one at all - has no plan of his own, all party approved and directed.

Perfect way to build a wall of protection around a politburo that can never be breached.
