Microsoft's early web presence (1994)
Microsoft's design history over the years was varied, but started off with this imagemap-based homepage with links to various products and services. The gray background was a familiar sight in the time period since it was the default web page background color for early browsers.

Reddit- Reddit bills itself as "the front page of the internet" and has done so since its humble beginnings in 2005. Dreamt up by then-college students Steve Huffman and Alexis Ohanian, Reddit is a place for users to chat and share images and videos with others.

Weather.com: From its beginning, weather.com has been the premier website for people to go to and receive updates on the weather in their area and around the world. Weather.com was created by The Weather Channel as a way for people to receive updates and information on the weather that isn’t through their television or radio. The site originally began in 1995 but was relaunched in 1998 with a new appearance and updates that made the site more interactive.

Everyone loves free stuff, and one of the first websites trafficked in gratis software. Acme Laboratories has been up and running at Acme.com since 1991, and has all sorts of software (and fun) for free, including a chocolate registry.

IMDB - You know that thing that tells us who was in what movie? What is it again? Can you IMDB it? Oh, right it is IMDB. The second-screen favorite started out as a Usenet group cataloging actresses by their beautiful eyes. (Maybe we should have called it EyeMDB?) It then got more user-friendly with a move to the Web, hosted by Wale's Cardiff University in 1993.

What would the Web be without sex? Gary Kremen, founder of Match.com, was the first registrant of sex.com and let the domain lie there undeveloped. An enterprising pornographer Stephen Cohen swiped the domain name from him in 1995 when the Web was still the Wild West, and a forged fax could pave the way to profit. Kremen eventually got his site back and sold it in 2006 for $14 million.

A cloud weighs around a million tons. A cloud typically has a volume of around 1km3 and a density of around 1.003kg per m3 – that's a density that’s around 0.4 per cent lower than the air surrounding it (this is how they are able to float).

Identical twins don’t have the same fingerprints. You can’t blame your crimes on your twin, after all. This is because environmental factors during development in the womb (umbilical cord length, position in the womb, and the rate of finger growth) affect your fingerprint.

Earth’s rotation is changing speed. It's actually slowing. This means that, on average, the length of a day increases by around 1.8 seconds per century. 600 million years ago a day lasted just 21 hours.

Earlobes have no biological purpose. While they are rich in nerve endings and may play a role in social bonding, many scientists argue that earlobes don’t have any true biological purpose.

Your brain is constantly eating itself. This process is called phagocytosis, where cells envelop and consume smaller cells or molecules to remove them from the system. Don’t worry! Phagocytosis isn't harmful, but actually helps preserve your grey matter.

The largest piece of fossilized dinosaur poo discovered is over 30cm long and over two liters in volume. Believed to be a Tyrannosaurus rex turd, the fossilized dung (also named a 'coprolite') is helping scientists better understand what the dinosaur ate.

There’s no such thing as zero-calorie foods. Even low-calorie foods, such as celery and watercress, contain more energy than the body needs to process them.

Wearing a tie can reduce blood flow to the brain by 7.5 per cent. A study in 2018 found that wearing a necktie can reduce the blood flow to your brain by up to 7.5 per cent, which can make you feel dizzy, nauseous and cause headaches. They can also increase the pressure in your eyes if on too tight and are great at carrying germs.
