Last time I drove across the GG Bridge it cost $6 heading into he city and free heading in the northern direction towards Marin County.
Not sure if it's still done but many friends used to swim across that part of the SF Bay in a swimming event held each year.
And Jack Lalanne did it more than once (if I recall correctly) pulling a boad with people in it.
Or maybe it was a boatload of people that he pulled to Alcatraz.
Whatever .... it was a tremendous feat of aqua-strength!
OPPPS! I just found the following in an old newspaper clip ....
"At 60, he swam to Alcatraz handcuffed. As he turns 90, LaLanne has his eye on Catalina Channel."
