Actually it wasn't incest in the biological sense at least, but it sure was complicated. He did not impregnate his mother, he fertilized his sister-in-law's egg, which was then implanted in his mother. It seems odd and a bit risky since his mother was sixty-one years old, which is pretty old for someone to carry a fetus full term.
On the other hand, it probably made custody a non-issue. It common for grandmothers to spend time with their grandchildren.
Personally, I think adoption is a better choice. There are a lot of kids without parents to care for them who need a good home. Either way these unconventional routes to parenthood are expensive and fraught possible issues, such as custody battles.
