TRUE STORY
my mother in law (MIL) is 16 years old in 1972, the year her dad-not biological father- dies. In 75 she's 19 and no longer living at home; she's now in College and on her own working god-knows how many jobs. 75 is also the year that her mother recieved a check in the name of her deceased husband from the IRS for 400.00$. MIL never knew about the check, doesn't have any clue to its existenceor what ever becameof it. Fast forward Its 2005 and MIL's mother dies of cancer.
Now, last month in 2022, my MIL recieves a bill from the IRS in the sum of 400 bucks. Calls to find out what the fuck? It's in the name of her step dad. Well, the IRS explains, since he was dead it went to your mother- they were married and in the same household. MIL says OK but my mother died in 2005. IRS explains but it was issued to her when you were a juvenile and the check was to be used to support you be ause your father died. MIL says no, in 75 I was 19 and living on my own. IRS says but your father passed in 72 when you were a juvenile. MIL says but it wasn't issued til 75! IRS says she can file a claim and it will be looked into.
A month goes by and MIL recieves a new letter from the IRS. Says we denied your claim. You owe 400.00.
She's retired. Worked 57 years of her life. She lives on a very fixed income. Has to budget for everything. She was beside herself.
I was aghast too but honestly all I could say is "you voted for this bullshit."
(She's the type of black that legally carries a gun, goes to church, thinks homosexuallity is a sin, is disgusted by trans movement and indoctrination of our youth, disagrees with the pronoun insanity. Every worldly view she has is conservative YET somehow thinks she's a democrat. I had to listen to her celebrate wildly when Biden won. When I tried explaining to her why that runs contrary to her views she got pissed at me!)
