Two things I don't understand about Australia....3 actually.
1) You guys seem to be the most locked down country in the world with your own government kicking it's citizens asses over Covid. Yet you're still getting Covid cases over there? How is this possible
2) Why isn't the whole country just saying fuck it, and going out and beating the shit out of the thug cops beating people over the lockdowns?
3) Guns are illegal there right? How has that not led to a massive underground market? There's one in the U.S., and very few people are kept from legally obtaining them. Makes no sense how the demand is supported here, but not there. I mean even without Obama's little Fast and Furious scandal criminals have gotten them somehow way before that.
1, massive Omicron numbers among a population with over 90% vaccine uptake. Because the vaccine doesn't stop Omicron. Not at all.
2, You get fired from your job if you're not vaccinated. Then you can't pay your mortgage or afford food. That's the real extortion. There's no one to fight about it. You just don't work there anymore. Lockdowns and cafe banishments with police enforcement are nothing compared to losing everything you have. Compliance means a shot every 3 months. Or you're fired.
3, Guns don't solve this. It's not a gunfight. Occasional acts of violence by frustrated people just get used to tar anyone who opposes government measures. The basic problem imo is that Australians are unwilling to shoulder any inconvenience or discomfort themselves, so they comply to maximize their own comfort and hope that someone else will make the necessary sacrifices to rescue them. Someone else needs to lose their job and protest mandates so they themselves can get off the booster carousel without losing anything. I know many people like this. They're complaining about having to take boosters and, although I'm too polite to say so irl, I have little sympathy. So don't take it. "I just have to for work." Oh, ok.
The nation as a whole will only change direction, if it changes direction at all, as a result of places like the US, UK, Canada, etc, easing off. International pressure. The people who live here have demonstrated that they will comply, and they'll even hand over their children. Australians are mostly unhappy, I'd say 7/10 people, and yet hardly anyone is willing to lose their job which they don't even like in the first place, lol. They're not capable of simple, peaceful, non-compliance. That's all that's required, not some heroic Herculean effort. No one is asking you to take up arms or even march in protest. Just say no and tolerate a little financial discomfort for awhile. They can't do it. I know only one other unvaccinated person who isn't of retirement age. Guns wouldn't have solved anything. Having a nation with a sense of community and stewardship, with people who value their principles more than their expensive car, instead of one comprised of selfish, stupid cowards would have solved things, but we don't have that here.
So it's tempting to say, "Those poor people! That government is out of control." Yes, the government is out of control, and extored people into compliance. But people could have still said no. They didn't. Now it's boosters every 3 months forever, so they can go ahead and live with what they chose.
As for cops, they're just a blunt instrument of enforcement. I don't support them but they're not the cause of the problem.
