Bloodsport Redux - Any truth to this?
« on: January 28, 2022, 11:06:15 AM »

Will we see a Bloodsport 2?

As much as Jean Claude has fallen out of the graces for some, I still think he could actually pull off a project like this. With all the old KungFu movies that would air old Chinese "Masters" and get away with the use of wires for stunts, I can't imagine them not being able to amplify Van Damme's techniques with some movie magic. Couple all of that with some kickass soundtrack and some cool new blood for villains (maybe some actors like that guy that plays Yuri Boyka) and I think you could have something great, sort of like a true 80's movie throwback.

Thoughts?

Does anyone care about age anymore?

Testosterone levels [and sperm count] has dropped a staggering 50% in the past 50 years.

It seems to me like we are not even the same human being anymore. Not I the industrialized world, at least.

Charles Bronson started the geriatric action hero genre with the first Dearh Wish, in 1974. I think he was 53 that year.

That series lasted until Death Wish V in 1994, which was the only one I don't watch. Bronson was over 70 then.

Now we have Liam Neeson as our modern geriatric action star, and Arnold was still making a movies at least as old as 65 or more.

Sometimes this theme gets made fun of - like Stallone in Grudge Match, which came out when he is was 67.

So yeah, I think it could be done.

Van Damme has just recently turned 61, right? Stallone was 58-59 when Rocky Balboa was filmed.

I think it could be done...but would it be better to have him in the lead, as a secondary or background character, or just behind the scenes?

I think Van Damme could still do a lot of the work that taxes his physicality, even at his age. He was in a short-lived Amazon Prime series, and was able to still do stunts.

Looks pretty cool! Hell, Karate Kid has made a comeback with the Netflix series- so Bloodsport is next.

They just need kickass tunes, like the first movie:

Bloodsport Redux - Any truth to this?

As to this - I watched that trailer thinking this movie was going to happen, and was sad when I found out it wasn't.

FYI - "Wacky Packages" by Topps relaunched in 2006, because interest on the internet was so strong.

It can be done.

I’m not sure how it’ll be as a film, but the trailers for shit like this always looks cool. Definitely a plus keeping all of the characters.

Edit: whoops I guess it’s not a real film. So this is how Prime and Vince feel in every thread

Yes! Clint Eastwood is still active at 91. Maybe only behind the scenes - but that's incredible.

I didn't know this till a few years ago, but the Bloodsport film franchise is up to 4 films now.

.

.

Bloodsport 4 "Dark Kumite" isn't on Youtube. The second film isn't that bad, it kinda sorta feels like the first one.

------------------

I could see Van Damme still being decent if the film is made in the next couple of years, but after a certain point it's best to forget it.

Don't want it turning into this -

I’d much rather see van damme do bloodsport 2 now at 60 whatever than see the rock or any of these other fruitbags do anything. Bloodsport and kickboxer were two of my favorite movies. The action heroes form the 80s-90s are way better still than the now guys. Only guy I like nowadays is vin diesel he plays a good tough guy, rock does not play a good tough guy.

I've asked around and can confirm there's some brutal truth to this.

That would be epic!

I saw this movie in the movie theaters back in the 80s. We went with a pretty large group of people and the feeling we all had when we watched this was nothing short of amazement. Keeping in mind that this film was released well before the UFC was even a thing, it opened the world's eyes to the potential of such a sport concept (mixing and having all martial arts compete in one area). Yes, there were other tournaments (like Vale Tudo in Brazil) that combined a little bit of everything between opponents in a ring, but this movie brought it together nicely and actually was very fun to watch. The soundtrack was also glorious.

Best song for me:

Based on a true story.

The 'real' Kumite supposedly took place in the Bahamas instead of Hong Kong.

Death Wish 5 was actually "good"(especially for a 90ies movie) - also better than part 4.

I met Frank Dux in the 90s when I was a youngster and got a chance (he had no chance to move away from me because of seating) to spend time with him (pester him with never ending questions) and he signed an autograph for me and I believe he had a autobiography he signed as well for me.
