Will we go back to normal after covid?
« on: January 29, 2022, 11:08:56 PM »
Regardless of your stance on masks, vaccines, conspiracy theories or mandates, do you think this will EVER end and people walk around maskless and care free again at ANY point? 2 years? 5? Or has this become engrained in our culture now? The longer this goes on, the more it becomes our culture. What will movies be about in the next 5 years?
You can't make any realistic movie about current life set in 2020-2024 without covid in it. So you have to make more superhero sequels or period pieces. Nothing much to talk about in reality. I guess movies will just become set in fantasy worlds. Just like our lives. Just more covid. Every character from every book set in this era will have to reference covid. Is there a turning back?
Whether the hoax runs it's course like anti-vaxxers think, or everybody is forced to get vaccinated and Oak is right, will this EVER end? It will from a scientific standpoint, but what are we suffering as a culture? 2 years is quite a long time for a younger child to feel the fear of masks everywhere and death totals on the tv. The necessity of social congregation. This has sociological consequences. I am not pushing an agenda, just stating the obvious.

My dad lived through WWII, watching relatives die in battle, living under rationing of even the simplest food items for years, practicing for air raid drills every week, etc..

This Covid shit is nothing.

And for the record, OAK is never right.

This is the biggest shift in human history as we know it. Only time will tell what comes out of this scam.

Locally, yes.

My biggest worry is international travel, which could be a lot more complicated and time-consuming requiring doing tests 48hours before departure and arrival which is a big hassle, especially if in a foreign country.

Also now having to submit documents online to embassies first and then wait for 'approval', for instance proof of vaccinations, proof of Covid test appoinment and receipt, proof of plane ticket, proof of accommodation which has to be done longer in advance now and could potentially be cancelled, also due to bureaucratic errors/delays.

And also potentially have another test on arrival at a local hospital, the time involved is a wasted day and added stress, failed test could mean 14 days quarantine, destroy your holiday or business trip.

It will never go back to normal. Society is insane and politicians are drunk with power over these shutdowns.

Not for me. I've permanently lost faith in government, media, and most of modern humanity, and I don't see any avenue for its restoration.

I'm beyond libertarian. I'm done. I just want to be left alone.

I’d look further into the culture shift.

Covid could be the trigger for the fourth turning. The division among people is pretty crazy.

Strange how in some countries it's going so extreme and in others the restrictions are nearly phased out, with plans to go back to normal.

the future will be no car ownership and zero air travel except for private jets

they are now getting people used to not travelling by making it as difficult as possible

Most major airports will close

the high street shops will all close
You will be reliant on supermarkets and Amazon

We are seeing a shift toward totalitarianism in western countries.

The elites have grabbed more power and will never relinquish it.

Civil rights of citizens have been permanently reduced.

9/11 changed everything and Covid is just an extension of the power grab.

The rabble has acquiesced to the loss of their civil rights in exchange for the illusion of safety.

Enjoy your football, online betting, video games and drugs.

Resist and you will be destroyed.

This. It's normal where I am now. Nobody wears masks outside of healthcare facilities and nobody checks vaccination cards. Travel is the only issue.

It’s like I wrote that myself.

Now I’m convinced government is ENEMY.

I actively want all the cowards, slaves and we’re-all-in-this-together types to die miserable deaths.

I no longer want to be here.

Nope, no chance, at least not short term.  It will take many years because trust and faith once lost is very hard to get back.  Government, experts, doctors, media, academia, military, cops, business, Internet companies, and especially teachers have all been exposed as liars and frauds and compromised shills for power hungry psychopaths (released Covid and wrecked economy and gov't all just to get rid of Trump)

Imaging coming home and instead of finding your wife cheating on you, you find that it's 90% of the outside world cheating on you.

Whenever a crisis hits Mises always ends up the one being most right:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Omnipotent_Government

Omnipotent Government: The Rise of the Total State and Total War is a book by Austrian Schooleconomist Ludwig von Mises first published in 1944 by Yale University Press. It is one of the most influential writings in Libertarian social thought and critique of statist ideology and socialism, examining the rise of Nazism as an example. The book treats Nazism as a species of orthodox socialist theory. At the same time the book offers a critique of economic interventionism, industrial central planning, the welfare state, and world government, denouncing the trends of the Western Allies towards the total state. The book was made available online by the Ludwig von Mises Institute in 2004.[1

This won't end until the People end it.  I hope every single snowflake here and in the real world dies of Covid.  But they won't because it's all bullshit.  Just like our last presidential election.

I was going to say this. There will be people who don’t give up the masks for years, but I think for mass travel it’s here to stay. I have small children, one in kindergarten, who as far as his memory goes back masks are normal. It’ll be hard to break people of that. Sucks.

I don't think we will see a "normal" as normal as we had before the advent of COVID. I think we will be trained to adapt to a new "normal" post-COVID world.

Just like after 9/11 we were introduced to the TSA and it revolutionized the way in which we do travel through/from airports (i.e. take off your shoes, belts and empty your pockets before going through an "arms-in-the-air" metal detector) for the greater part of 20+ years, I also think there will be long-term changes that this pandemic will bring about in our way of living. What exactly that will entail, I am not sure. But after these types of events, I typically find that it's our basic freedoms that get chipped away at for the "greater" good.

This is the most disturbing part of the entire situation we find ourselves in. The impact on the kids has been absolutely horrible.

My son is 2.5 and has never worn a mask. No one wears them around here.

My littlest girl is four, and she only wears one when I have no control over it at all - I can't control what her mom's side of the family makes her do. Ultimately, I can't do much about it.

I consider the masks to be child abuse.
