Is the Bodybuilding mindset liberal/conservative?
« on: February 04, 2022, 06:21:33 AM »
This article saying libs are more miserable got me thinking:  https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/restoring-america/faith-freedom-self-reliance/why-are-liberals-so-miserable

On the one hand it's liberal in that it has you consider and reject things other than the the normal tried and true way of 3 meals a day, 7 days a week horseshit society feeds you.  On the other hand it is very conservative because a life of strict schedules/diet, hard work and consistency is conservative in nature.

most old-school lifters i know hate dems and are pretty conservative (and I know many at my old-age)
most muscle-forums are 95% conservative with a tiny set of whiny libs (like here)
makes sense as high-test levels and being driven is something whiny-libs know nothing about
they may lift, but like school-girls (estrogen soaked)
they mostly are the schmoe type who like looking at muscle-men and are quite gay
the perverse if you would
all of this stuff started around 2016 when trump won (the major bickering on all platforms)
now that pant-shitter is in charge and things are collapsing daily, many (on other sites) have gone silent or have run-off
because now its their turn to get the hate and they dont like it or cant take it
most repubs just waited quietly for obama to finish his terms and the bickering about him was minor/minute
trump won and things exploded
the left lost their shit and just melted down (like warm diarrhea in joes diaper)

Bodybuilding has always skewed blue collar, and blue collar skews more right than left. It's probably changed a little bit over the last few decades, but not tremendously. Liberals tend to go into the endurance sports. Strength sports tend to be classed as more overt displays of manliness, and male dominance, and that's frowned upon in liberal cliques.

A guy named Carl Stempel wrote about this some in various sporting journals, if you're interested.

It’s hard to be competitive in a strength sport if you’re spending most of your time trying to determine what gender you are.

I meant more from a mindset/worldview perspective, not really about politics (although there's a certain overlap).

I mean gyms and BB shows are some of the most integrated equal places in society.  The gyms I go to and have been in including Gold's Venice is black, white, Asian, gay, straight, male, female, everyone just putting in the effort for results and trying to get it done.

type of people who try to assume or judge your political views based your outward appearance

usually simple minded bored individuals tend to do this -

I can tell you working in bars and nightclubs my whole adult life - I could care less your political and religious affiliations or beliefs if you aren't the type of person who forces that on others

Id rather know your LDL or body fat% - I could help you more or even have a well structured conversation - you can't talk to anyone about politics nowadays - they just want to get their point off and then wait for the next time to speak - most are under educated anyway

an educated and well rounded man has more important things to concern himself with throughout the day than the political beliefs of another man - seem petty to me

Strong post.

There’s a saying that politics is the pastime of second rate men. I agree.

Sure leading up to a Presidential election you might indulge but the rest of the time it’s a waste.

It's a mixture of both.

Bodybuilders are extremely liberal with drug use BUT conservative when lying about the importance and use of said drugs.

i notice at work, the ones who stand around each morning in the kitchen gossiping near the tv like ladies are all dems
all they do is trump-whine still (mostly 50+ year old "men")

rest of the place laughs at them often when stopping in to fill their coffee
our sr. director for the site made sure faux news is playing on the tv's (his orders) and the twinks just melt
its hilarious
only facilities can change the channels (locked controls)
so it just plays faux news all day
gossiping queers

Gym people lean right for sure.  They're about self-improvement, hard work, etc.

I would say your average gym rat probably tends to be conservative.  I'd guess that pro's lean more to the left. Gay4pay and heavy drug use would favor a liberal mindset.

LOL are people pretending that bodybuilder=hard worker in this thread? Because in every other thread, the general consensus seems to be bodybuilder= lazy, dumb, drug addict. I guess the characteristics change depending on which politically rickety argument you're trying to construct.

Working out is a mainstream activity that different people do for different reasons.   ::)

It seems there is some confusion Al.

Bodybuilders are hard working, goal oriented, dedicated individuals to THE LIFESTYLE. They hustle and push the boundaries to the limit, improving weaknesses and making them strengths.*

*Unless the bodybuilder is a non Asian minority. Then they are free loading hucksters.

Ever see a bodybuilding-friendly gym with MSNBC on the TVs and everybody wearing masks? Me neither but then again I live in a freedom state, so we naturally don’t take kindly to disrespect from goofy mask wearers, not at the grocery store, the car wash, the dry cleaners, etc.

You know what I think of your posting style, asshole, but this is actually my other issue with this thread. Most really don't do that. Most people in the "fitness lifestyle" who aren't pros only have short periods of time really doing that, if they even get to that point at all. Most don't turn weaknesses into strengths, most work on strengths and ignore weaknesses.  Among male gym rats, everybody likes working arms and chest, maybe back, fewer people  work legs unless they are genetic strengths. (I've heard so many guys try to justify why NOT training legs is actually a smart thing.) Half are permabulkers. Most never progress, even if they go somewhat regularly.  Even if you want to politicize working out (which is stupid IMO) the practical mindset of most people who work out is way different than the ideal mindset.

God bless you.

I love the  turning weakness into a strength "myth".  I think the only time I've seen it happen is with Cutlers back (and I dont know how much of a weakness it was more so he was able to bring it up combined with catching Ronnie on his decline) and maybe Pellius and his calves (if they were indeed a weakness).

Also most of the people in gyms are weirdos peroid. There are only a handful you would really want to socialize with, politics aside.

Phil Heath and his back.

Pre 2007ish his back was poor. Back and chest were his only weak body parts then.

By 2009 he had thicker pecs, although they didn't look great with his narrow clavicles. Back was now out of this world good. Best example of turning a weakness into a strength. In comparison Cutler barely improved his.
