RIP - Tom Prince - 02-05-22
« on: February 05, 2022, 04:23:59 PM »
Just saw it on Bob Chicks FB

ifbbprobobchick

TOM PRINCE passed away early this morning with his wife Becca at his side. Tommy Boy fought a great fight for many years, battling a host of health issues but ultimately cancer was too much. He was a champion, and one of my closest friends, Tom and Becca are Godfather and Godmother to our daughter Milania. Tommy and I trained together as IFBB Pros , but spent more time talking about life, our kids ( tom has two from a previous marraige) and philosophy, his ever present Masters in English Lit always present. He'll always be remembered as a great husband to Bec, father , uncle, brother and friend. Rest in peace my brother.

Whoa.  Unexpected.  In that early 2004 issue of FLEX Magazine when Tom talked about how he needed a kidney transplant, he said that he expected to live a below average lifespan, but maybe live to around age 65.

As it is, he only turned 52 this past October.

RIP.  :(

Wow, is that all? I have an office manager that’s on her second kidney transplant. First one lasted 28 years and the expectancy is usually 20 on one kidney. Sucks for him.

I trained next to prince many years ago(22 years) in Florida. He was huge. Was repping 495 flat bench. Sitting on bench about 8’ from me his hams hanging were crazy as were his forearms and arms. Spoke with him for 5-10 minutes. Was a very nice guy.

RIP you big freak.

Seems like it was a known thing, Bob mentions the wife being with him and Tom fighting it, etc.... in the above.

RIP.

Tom's story is a bit complicated, although he is much luckier than Luke Wood he got a kidney transplant in August of 2011, and died of an infection something like three days later - Luke died around September 1st of 2011, and was only 35 years old.

I can't recall exactly what had happened with Tom...but his transplant apparently worked for many years...and then he may have required dialysis again.  He may have been on dialysis in recent years.

Tom also did a good job staying SMALL before he died [and I mean that in a GOOD WAY].  Had he decided to be 300-lb like Nasser El Sonbaty, he could have died five years younger...like Nasser El Sonbaty...or even younger than that.

So that was good of him.  I still expected him to live longer than he did...it seemed to me that he was taking his health seriously, and doing what he needed to, to make the most of his kidney issues.  Here was his Facebook page - although it looks to me that the RIP threads are not showing up, based on the privacy settings of Tom's page:

https://www.facebook.com/thomas.n.prince

And here is Bob Cicherillo's fan page, where he posted about Tom's passing:

RXMuscle also has a tribute thread up for Tom:

Goodmorrow,

We're all a-buzz here at the GetBig offices. I was just talking to John in accounting and he stated he had spent the day with Tom a few months ago. He wasn't doing great but he was however doing.
His diet had changed and John told me roughly this was what Tom ate daily:

7am: Fresh squeezed glass of orange juice, half a cup of oatmeal.

12pm: Waldorf salad, glass of unsweetened tea.

5pm: smoked duck or fillet (depends what he had in the fidge), side of sprouts lightly glazed with almond oil.

9pm: small box of raisins.

10pm: chocolate or vanilla Boost.

STAY POSITIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, I know.  There are very few things that I dislike about Getbig, but hijacking a death thread is one of those things.

I do expect the normal discussion about abusing things and the correlation with bodybuilder mortality / young mortality to come up...but that's par for the course.  It's sad when other things carry on, even in death threads.

Well this was cancer, not the usual suspect of steroids.

RIP.

He was smart a long time ago to slim down.

What is your problem? Tom was on the straight and arrow with diet and keeping healthy. I met Tom on two different occasions and I will tell you this, he had turned a new leaf in his present life. I'm not going to speak ill of Tom but he was much different when he competed. Maybe because he was younger, maybe the contest prep, maybe???? But what counts is that Tom turned a negative into a positive. He was much happier and healthier...mind and body when I met him three years ago.
For his diet, this was what I was told. The diet of bodybuilders interests me. Now I understand that he would change things up...but he would always eat a salad everyday. And he loved raisins...that was his dessert.
Stop trying to be a Karen and create drama where there is none.

GOOD DAY SIR!!!

Yes he was.  I'm glad that he did that.  It probably bought him some years.

why are you more precious about the dead than the living ?

Which living person don't I respect?

I think in general, most people pay respectful tributes to the dead.  And being a bodybuilder death, it wouldn't surprise me if the discussion went in a direction of talking about certain points that tend to come up at such times.  I just think that now is not the place to be joking.  But maybe that's wrong - but perhaps it is right to say that any jokes in a thread about a person dying should especially be funny.  Otherwise, they just stand out as being in poor taste.

Well I bet he's under 250 lbs. now...And with that I can say thus-

He was a fool when young but now he rests, hopefully in the hope of something more than what once was.  Any here that doubt the sincerity of  my words do not know me at all.
