Whoa...hang on a second with this one.  Keep in mind that the obituary of pellius was from a "Submit Your Own" obituary website, and it was removed within 24 hours of it being posted here.  On top of that, I was threatened in PM over questioning the validity of that obituary, which was questioned by many others, including Ron.  On top of that, this was within one week of the fake death / fake news of Victor Richards passing away, and also consider that I cross-checked with every single relative of pellius that I could on Facebook, and not one of them mentioned his passing.  Also, pellius had his Facebook account settings so that any "RIP" posts on Facebook would have showed up on his Facebook page, and yet there were none to be seen.  On top of that, pellius was only 62 years old and in great shape - who would suspect that he would have died that young?  But after the fake news Victor Richards death notice, I felt it was important to scrutinize death claims, so that Getbig isn't a part of the fake news circulation bandwagon.

I felt that was reasonable - and I would have stopped questioning it if anyone had posted actual evidence that he died.  And in the end - that's what happened: more than one board member called the medical examiner in Hawaii to confirm that pellius had died.

I don't think it's unreasonable to verify whether or not a death is a true claim.  In this case, it was Bob Cicherillo who posted the original death notice, and Bob is a credible source, as he was good friends with Tom, and is still good friends with Tom's wife, Rebecca.  I sort of wished this death wasn't true, as Tom was only 52, but ultimately, I didn't question this death.

I think the main reason why I questioned the death of pellius to the degree I did was that I just didn't believe it / didn't want it to be true [and it seemed unlikely given that by all rights, he looked healthy], and the Victor Richards death hoax had JUST happened...and with Josh threatening me over questioning it...that's not how I would react if someone merely questioned an unverified death.

Had the obituary been from a source that wasn't removed so quickly, I would have never questioned the death of pellius.

RIP Tom.
RIP pellius.

Well, hope it was all worth it for him. Many years of substance abuse. According to wikipedia he was 5 ft 8 and 312 lbs off season. (= 141 kilos). He looked near death in that interview years ago.

Safe bet that many others from the nineties and on will follow. "Whatever it takes"....

That goes back to what I said about Jon Andersen in Gym-rat's post - here's a guy who is 50 years old, and as jacked as you can get.  And the notion is "whatever it takes!", "hard work, baby!", etc.  While I do admire the work bodybuilders put in, to be that size does not come without risk, and I think it's important to be mindful of those risks, balance competitive bodybuilding with health, and no when to put it away, among other things.

Tom did the right thing to quit when he did [even though he was forced to], and largely stay slimmed down [although it seems that he got braver here and there with his dosages, and did some cycles even after his kidney problems - but that was not the majority of the time].  He was very thin in his later years - but that was for the best.

Does anyone know if Tom's kidney transplant failed, causing him to need to go on dialysis again?  That's what I had heard.

Here's a [now almost classic] interview with Tom Prince from RXMuscle - if I recall correctly, in this interview, Tom stated that he deadlifted 700x3, among other feats of strength:

Question: I can definitely understand the Clen and Cytomel, as both of those are almost essentials pre-contest nowadays, but what about caffeine? Don't most Ephedrine supps come with caffeine added to it?

{snip}

Is Cytomel particularly toxic?  Is it safe, relative to other cutting agents?

I know Tom got a lot of flak for saying that Advil caused his kidney problems, but if he used the amounts of Advil that he did...it would make sense that it contributed to his problems, given the renal toxicity profile it has.  I don't think that was completely off.  Someone said they saw Tom Prince at an expo...possibly around 1999...and he was so huge it didn't even make sense.

I didn't realize that Tom was at one point the 4th fastest at the 100m breaststroke in the country.  He said that in that RXMuscle radio interview that I posted above.  I actually don't recall that he was a swimmer.

In the photoshoot below, Tom was 312-lb.  That is a massive body weight for 5'7.5".  No wonder someone would think he was so big that looking at him didn't make sense:

^ In that interview, Tom said he had a child when he was in college...I believe he had two kids with his ex-wife, so he must have one child who is at least 30 now.  That's sad for them, for this to happen.

In the photos below, Tom was supposedly on very little gear at the time - he was definitely a genetic freak.  I think he was 22-23 in this photos [taken in 1992, I believe].  Form the Web Archive:

the two primary causes of chronic kidney failure are high blood pressure and uncontrolled diabetes.  NSAIDS can trigger acute episodes and worsen existing chronic kidney disease but arent strongly associated with new-onset chronic disease.  It may well have been a factor but his high bodyweight and gh-induced diabetes likely were the causative agents here.

blaming it on Advil is just a way of saving face, i assume

Nineties (or today's) builders do not work or train harder than Arnold or his contemporaries.
They just do more (and different sorts of) gear.

Tom Prince said in an interview that bodybuilding for him was not a full time job. In his prime he trained for 1 hour per day, and that was it.

Training is the easiest part.  Withstanding the side effects of all the drugs and ESPECIALLY the diet is much more difficult.  As you mention, training is a couple hours each week .. staying on a diet is 24/7

Source?

Tom said (on here or mayhem) that in order to become a pro you couldn’t miss a work out or meal over the course of a year. And that the gym was a full time job.

I remember back in the day him making fun of Gym rats and saying something like  he couldn't weight below 200 lbs even if he wanted to ....

Ever since, Every time I think of Karma , I cant help but remember his particular outcome in life .... And to be in dyalisys for nearly 20 years in damn impressive if you think about it .

Dorian is an all time great. He’s always preached HIT.

I may be 100% wrong but I thought Tom was about maximum weight for maximum reps/sets.

I guess I'll drop a few lines about Tom.

I actually met Tom back in MuscleMayhem. He was a moderator there and I honestly felt that he was a bit of a fucking asshole at the time. He would drop very long replies and be pretty condescending to members, while also banning people he just didn't like. We bumped heads and I told him to go fuck himself a few times on the open forum. He didn't like me on MuscleMayhem, because we had a number of mutual friends on the pro circuit, which made it difficult to just ban me without people hearing about how much of a sensitive Prince'ss he was. Of course, the fact that we both had tempers didn't help the cause.

Then, some time later, Craig Titus and I started bumping heads on that very forum. Titus would pass himself off as a "tough" guy that would beat the shit out of someone if they got in his face. Well, I offered to publicly fight him at Victor Martinez's gym in NYC (this was back around 2002-2003). I gave Craig dates and times and Victor offered to make it happen for the two of us (Titus was well aware). Craig backed out (publicly - with Victor confirming it). After this issue with Titus, Tom sent me a message on MuscleMayhem stating how much he hated Titus as a person and felt that Titus was the scum of the earth for a multitude of reasons. As a result of that, Tom extended his respect and said that any enemy of that asshole was a friend to him. Following that point, Tom and I got along just fine.

I then bumped into him here on GetBig and we were cool, but I did tell him that I would troll him a bit for taking random shit WAY too seriously. So, of course, like many other heroes here on the forum, I made fun of his nude COLT picture in which he appeared to be hung like that of a light switch. He took it well and sent me a private message on here saying that I was an asshole, but that it was all fair given that he did allow "pictures of his jewels for the price of cheap silver".

Years later, after he suffered from renal failure and stepped away from the industry, I never heard from him again. Yes, I later saw the pictures of him looking as if he weighed 110 pounds, but I knew the reasons why and laid off the bullshit, as I knew the circumstances that led him to that end was a part of his life he never wanted to revisit.

I wish his family well as these will be difficult times. He was one of our own and certainly brought laughter to the forum in his own way.

Rest In Peace Tom "Trap Monster" Prince.
