Across all groups, life expectancy dropped to 76.60 years in 2021. That figure compares with 76.99 in 2020 and 78.86 in 2019. These are historically unusual drops.
Speaking mathematically here, strictly:
There is NO POSSIBLE WAY - underline that in neon - that two lifespan years could have been lost from the virus.
That's two years being taken off a full lifespan. In fact, I don't even want to break out the math here because no one will understand it.
But in a nutshell:
Even a million people dying at 84 instead of 86 is not going reduce EVERYONE'S lifespan by two years.
The virus BARELY takes two years off everyone who gets it, on average, and not everyone - by far not everyone - has even gotten it so far.
So something else is happening. Record drug overdose deaths, for starters.
